Publisher's Summary

Join the world's most famous drow elf in the penultimate chapter of the Legend of Drizzt series! Spending time in the unimaginable torture chambers of the Abyss for even a day would be enough to break even the heartiest soul, and the barbarian Wulfgar was there for years. When he returns, his friends find him a changed man, and not changed for the better. But Wulfgar's road to redemption is one he must travel on his own, even if it leads to the bottle.

    "One of my favourites"

A bit darker than the other stories but that just served to haul me even deeper into the emotion. It was just fantastic to get to know wolfgar better. Definitely one of my favourites of the series so far.

    "Enjoyed the story."

Struggled with momentum as I usually do with these Drizzt books. Speaking of which, where was the Drizzt? Wulfgar's troubles are interesting, but I'm ready for the gang to get back together and wreck some monsters.

    "boring!"

this book was mostly about Wolfgar and some random kids. I was not impressed. seems like the author had no ideas for a plot and wrote a bunch of crap to make money. Skip this book.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The first half keeps switching between Wulfgar and then to people that just seems to be from a romance novel or soap opera. Eventually you do figure out why these people were in the story, however it could have simply done with a few paragraphs of backstory after their paths cross with Wulfgar and didnt need all the boring crap.

    "Not Salvatore's best work"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book is for Wulfgar fans, that are interested in seeing the character spiral down into a drunken fool by making poor decision after poor decision. I'm about half way through the book and still no Drizzt, Bruenor, Regis, or Catti-brie.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Sea of Swords and I'll be praying that it's good enough for me to keep going in the Drizzt world.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. I usually love the Drizzt books finishing them in a day or two tops. I've been trying to get through this for over a month and I'm still only half way through.

    Any additional comments?

If I could do it again. I'd just find a plot summary of the book and skip this one. It was a waste of a credit.

    "Tough Read"

Not the typical story of Drizzt. This story concentrates on Wulfgar's struggles to come to terms with his past and his demons. Watching Wulfgar’s decent into depravity, was not enjoyable. I tried but did not enjoy the story of the peasant girl and it was very hard to push through this novel. Victor Bevine is a very good narrator and he made the story tolerable. I hope that the next book picks up.

    "Salvatore's Worst Book (Some Spoilers)"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I am assuming that Salvatore had big plans for the Wulfgar, Delly, and baby story arc at some point, and that is why he spent so much time developing these characters. Unfortunately, this slog of a book is completely worthless, because he abandons every character he forced us to learn intricate details about within a few books. Delly dies, wulfgar gives the baby back to Miralda (at which point the fiefdom is never heard from again), and then Wulfgar disappears from the series until his resurrection in the Companions. I hated this book when I read it when it was released, and I still do not enjoy it now. This book makes no sense in the series, but is the exception to the rule. the rest of Salvatore's books are fantastic, and the series gets back on track again quickly with the Sword Coast.

"Drizzt is not in this "Legend of Drizzt" book."

Struggled to get through it. Follows a teen love story of a minor noble and a present girl, as well as, Wulfgar's drunken spree. Not many engaging or deep characters. Certainly not what I expected following the epic duel with Entrari in the preceding novel.

    "Big Letdown.."

I'm a huge Salvatore fan... but this book has no drizzt... the focus is completely on wulfgar who is a train wreck and frustrating to read about... you can just read a summary and move on to the next book... this one was a big let down :(
