A product of the latest technologies, Barliona is a virtual world brimming with fun and entertainment. The government has become the guarantor for the in-game currency, allowing its free circulation. As a result the population floods Barliona in pursuit of easy money.
It doesn't take long for the game developers to discover a source of free labor: real-world prison convicts. While their bodies are locked in special auto-maintenance virtual capsules, the prisoners' minds are released into Barliona's virtual mines.
Dmitry Mahan has been through it all. Sentenced to eight years' hard labor, he now struggles with an unpopular class - the Shaman - and an equally unpopular profession of a Jeweler. His fight for survival becomes anything but virtual.

Dang it Vasily! You have 7 books already out in this series and apparently they are all pretty good! So let's get them on Audible!!
"Don't Hesitate To Buy!"
This series so far has kept me seriously entertained. If you love rpg games, & lots of twist's in the plot then there is no greater treat then "Way Of The Shaman". The Main characters growth is fascinating to witness as the story is told. If you like The "Play to live" series or even the "Phantom Server Trilogy" then this would be right up your alley. The Narration is so in sync with the characters. Jonathan Yen really breaths life into this fantasy World. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
please make more. I can't wait to listen to the next part. hurry hurry. I love this series. please make it in the next few months.
more more lot more please. loved it can't wait for the next one really can't wait for the next one. moreee please.
"The Narrator sets the Tone"
I had read the first book, “Survivor Quest,” in the “Way of the Shaman,” series but decided to listen to the second book “The Karloss Gambit, on Audible; reading the first book without the influence of a narrator made the story seem somewhat more intense. I realize this is a LITRPG genre series and therefore probably should be a little lighthearted; and its not that the narrator, Johnathan Yen, did a bad job, in fact he was very credible giving each character their own voice. It’s just, in my opinion his tone made the story seem more juvenile and not the intense adventure I had read in the first book.
Having said all of that I like the series so far, although it is not complete and I don’t see Audible or Amazon offering the third book yet. The same thing happened in the “Play to Live Series,” by D Rus; another LITRPG series that I like and Audible listeners are left hanging waiting on the completion.
I’m giving the story four stars only because the ending seemed rushed and it is not complete. The narrator four stars even though I thought a more intense reading would have given this story a completely different experience he did a credible job. Overall four stars
"I need more stars for this book"
This book is legendary. If the next 4 books where in English i would be reading them now instead of writing a review. Out of the 1000+ books in my library this is now my number one.
If you have never gotten in to mmorpgs i am not sure that you will like this book , but if you have you will love this. How hard could it be to learn to read Cyrillic /sigh..
"LitRPG is getting good!"
Never take the time to review. This is worth the money if you like LitRPG.
"never thought an MMO would make such a good book"
I listened to both the first book and this book in secession and I must say that I was greatly surprised by how well the story has turned out. on the whole this book was wonderful to read the characters are rememberable as well as the world that they live in. I would say that this book could be listened to by both Gamers and non-gamers though the constant speak of the game mechanics and system mechanics would greatly throw off a lot of the non-gamer readers. and let it be said that if a game like this was ever to come out, virtual or not there would be many players who would never leave its company.
the narrator wow he did a great job at narrating all the characters in their own unique way had a few moments where the voice kind of fell short. In moments where the character was screaming or enraged I didn't quite feel what I was supposed to from the character. But in all other cases the narrator did a wonderful job of presenting each character individually.
my favorite moment would have to be the initiate shaman trial test Not only would I really love to see this implemented in some game where not only are you were not restricted by what you are given Quest wise but it is what you want out of the game and still succeed at what you're doing the whole thing was something I would love to see in life much less in a game so many interesting features in this book hard to describe as great moments just because it's in a game but is it truly a game if you can live and feel every moment in it?
"Awesome!!! enough said"
Book 2 has tons more of everything u loved in book 1 from action, hidden secrets, suspense and the highly popular cleverness the main character shows. Honestly the guy reminds me of a funny futuristic Odysseus with superpowers lol
"Great 2nd Book"
What a great story. The first and second books are wonderful! Do yourself a favor and get both .
"Power leveling but in a good way"
This is the second book in the series and whilst it could stand alone, you really need to read the first. Story grows well and the character remains believable (in a game context of course). Story develops well and the addition of other characters is good.
love this series! when is book 3 coming??
this is the first series i a long time that got me hooked
"This book cost me £990 to read.."
Started listening to the first book on Monday... This was my first mistake, it's now 7 day later and I've just finished the second book. Problem is - I've not been in work because I couldn't tear myself away from listening. Thank goodness the next book isn't out yet otherwise I think my wife would of left me. If it wasn't for her the kids would have starved. I'm literally not joking.
"book three please"
if the other books were to come out soon i would definitely listen again and it probably be a highlight of the experience from my current vantage point, but in the end this is only part of a series of books so it must be viewed as part of the larger whole. with all that said i would certainly listen to this book again.
i love any story the can flesh out its world and give its internal politics just as much credence as the characters and this book does a good job at that, the rivalries of all the top guilds in Barleona make a great obstacle for Mahan to go up against when just trying to serve out his 8 years without hassle and makes for a very interesting listen
thoroughly enjoyed this and rhe previous book, while i have listened to books where the narration was better (jim butchers dresden files read by james marsters) this series is coming in a firm second. looking forward to the next book.
"must have more"
loved it . wish the next book was out on audible. found the main character a little creepy at times. but very good otherwise
"I want to be a shaman"
so now that's 2 of the series down, and nearly 30hours of my life too all the while I've enjoyed listening to this story. still brilliant characters development still great in the RPG style and can't wait to see what happens next.
