Publisher's Summary

After bitter fighting, Tavi of Calderon has eventually forged an alliance with Alera's oldest foes, the savage Canim, and he must escort them on their long sea-voyage home. This will strain their fragile accord - but the worst is yet to come.

The inhuman Vord have spent the last three years laying waste to the Canim homeland, making it a desolate place indeed. Then the Alerans become stranded there, cut off from their ships. The Canim alliance will be tested as they enter the killing fields together, depending on each other's strengths if they both are to survive.

For 1000 years, Alera and her furies have withstood every enemy, and survived every foe. The 1000 years are over.

Excellent Next Installment

Excellent Next Installment, now the characters are well established their development carries more weight. This lays the foundation for excellent storytelling and expansion of the world with the addition of new elements.

great story, decent edit

Some pacing issues, but likely editorial. Story is great, Jim Butcher is one of my favourite authors for good reason.

Esmeralda, the horns, the horns

The crows begotten horns are back, would deeply love to know who imagined this stark discordant interruption to the weaving of a tale was warranted.
I found them as inspirational as Gimli's blowing of the fart horn of Helm's Deep :D

Great book, great narration, but terrible production

Story is amazing and Kate Reading narrates brilliantly. The only negative here, which is frustrating, is the random audio cuts along with blaring trumpet noises randomly throughout the book.

pronunciation

it's valet not valette, final T's are silent in French, should rhyme with ballet not smurfette!

trebuchet is the same.
