Paul Grove finds love in the beautiful alien woman who takes his breath away. For the first time since his wife died, Paul wants someone of his own to hold. When a madman threatens his new family and takes the woman he is determined to claim, he will use all of his skills in hunting, tracking, and guerilla warfare to get her safely back by his side.
Morian Reykill discovers that the alien male who has claimed her is the true mate she has always hoped of having but thought an impossible dream. Will she be able to save him before a powerful enemy kills him as he did her first mate...or will she lose not only her true mate but her entire family? She is willing to sacrifice anything to protect them. What she does not know is that Paul is the ultimate predator when his family is in danger: when he is in pursuit of an enemy, his prey never gets away.

"what an inventive imagination"
Susan has built so many world's I'm wounder-struck by her imagination.I have All of her books and by all I mean ALL of her books. They are quick reads that keep you in your seat wanting more.
Paul is such a strong character and he fits right in with the Valdear he has that heightened seance of possession, you know when he say's "Mine" he means it. He's smart and personable and fit's right in with everyone else and teaches them what they need to know to win.
David is wonderful with these characters It's odd though I have always been of the mind if the books main character is female the narrator should be as well. He's doing a great job with these books
Try to hurt what's mine, you gotta go through me then you can feel the pain
"I was so excited for this story..."
I was very excited for this book, maybe too excited. It wasn't exactly what I expected, a very good read but not where I thought things were headed. It just felt like Morian wasn't exactly as spunky as she could be, I wanted more of her fire. Her dragon annoyed be much of the time, she just did not have the spark that her sons had in previous books.
I really liked the way the story brought us to where Paul was and what happened to him while the girls were missing. It helped to get to know him better and see his thoughts, which were more telling than Trisha's memories. He has a whole core of strength and loyalty to family. You see how he is a perfect match for Morian and her sons!
The story here is mixed narrative as usual, you get the leads thoughts as well as supporting. The supporting POV are a bit jumpy and random. It makes things feel choppy. I wish these were better managed, because they take you out of the stories. It is a great way to keep the reader on the inside of what is happening, I just wish it were more consistent with the supporting cast thoughts.
The steam factor is delicious as always! Some seriously yummy smexy scenes that will scorch you to the core. Oh my yes, this is an extremely hawt read! Be prepared for a break when things get sexy, cause they are delightfully detailed.
This moves us into the battle with the big bad and finally a resolution to that issue. The uncle is seriously deranged! It was also interesting to get more of Morian's backstory and role as a priestess. I kind of wish we could have had a bit more on her adventures as a youth. She was a real character who would have fun to read more about. What we did see showed her to be more than the sage matriarch we have come to know.
The audiobook narrated by David Brenin is a scrumptious feast for your ears. I am never disappointed in his reads, always delightful listen. He has a yummy rumble to his voice that catches all the masculine characters alpha tones. His feminine voices have just enough of a touch to make them realistic. Usually I listen to reads at double speed, not in this case. I like to listen to his reads at regular pace, because they are quick enough and I like to savor the time I have with him reading to me.
Even though this is kind of the end, it is also far from it. There are several side characters who have books to tell their stories. I expect they will cover a few events we already witnessed. It will be interesting to see how those stories layer with the ones we know.
As a rule sci-fi fantasy is not my kind of book, But this series is one of the best I have ever listen to. The sex scenes were a bit out of line and way over the top. But again just pulled the ear phones out and waited for them to be over, when they got to be too much. All of the books were so very worth the time to listen to. One favorite thing about any book, is to be able to laugh out loud. Each of these books had that particular capability in the stories. Lot's of action along with a wonderful imagination by this author. This last book was the frosting on the cake. Yep the perfect ending. Although the stories could continue with the grandchildren. Guess we will just have to wait and see. David Brenin will now top my favorite narrator's list. As he did a great job with all of these books!
"this is one of the best books ever!"
I loved it when Paul got his dragon and saved his woman! mature romance is just as good as twenty-year old romance. I can't wait to read or hear grandma pearl's story.
"S.E. Smith and the Dragons of Valdier are awesome"
Paul's Pursuit was fantastic. I really loved his diligence in finding his daughter and a dragon mate of his own. Paul is a bad "mother- shut ur mouth" when it comes to stealth and is a good man. Go mama- get ur man!
The final two minutes of the story made it for me and had me in tears. Beautiful!
I am do in heaven with this series more because I am on my last book (7) I am going to need another one get yo writing. Love Love
"Showed that No Matter How Old You get . . ."
This story truly set the true meaning to the fact that even as you get older and your kids grow up and you start having grandkids that even you still deserve and can find love, even true love. I loved the story about a man finding his true love after his daughter had found it in one of her sons and then all the other sons and their true loves being brought into the story. And how they fought for their family.
As of recently I've noticed after reading S Et Smith's books she never disappoints and then they just keep getting better. You will not be disappointed with this series. I have read the first six books and I still have at least one and three smaller books to the series to read but they are truly breathtaking, romantic, sad, FUNNY, hopeful, and the true meaning of what it should be like between a man and woman no matter their age.
I just pray author writes more to this series even after all this time or writes the characters into another connecting series because they are a beautiful loyal and funny family. I do suggest reading all the books in order but know that 1-6 are all funny, erotic, loving etc. I still think the 5th is still my favorite so far. I still have the 7th book as well as three small novellas to read to complete it unless she throws us a new book as well as a couple of books on other series off of this one.
"I really enjoyed this book"

When he transforms
