From the universe of the Until the End of the World series. (Note: The City Series can be heard before or after the Until the End of the World series)
Sylvie Rossi has the loner thing down pat, with the exception of her best friend, Grace. But when the two are trapped in a hospital during the last gasp of a dying city, alone time is no longer an option. A nurse's offer of sanctuary promises Sylvie the supplies she needs to survive the zombies - it's the coexisting with people that might do her in.
Eric Forrest will do whatever it takes to get into the dead city for his sister, including ending up dead himself. He's used to taking risks, but with every mile he travels death looks likelier and likelier, and finding his sister may be his only prospect for survival - if he can make it home.
Sylvie doesn't need more than food, water, and shelter. Eric wants only to find his sister. But sometimes what we think we need isn't what we need at all, and what we find is more than we expected.

I love this book right up to the end. Could do with more protaganists and drama but underneath I really dont want that....This book was all about one girl's fight with herself and anyone who has been through it will love it but also hate it when they recognise themselves. I need to read more to see where it goes, but definitely worth the tears I shed when I saw me in the main charachter....
The depth of the charchters
I probably would have heard the book in those voices in my mind... they were pretty spot on
I cried for 45 minutes when Grace told Sylvie she was alone and no one cared if she lived or died....I sobbed
"I'm walking but I'm reading!"
More of the same from the author who bought forth zombies in her Until the End of the World trilogy. This time we follow relatives that were left behind in New York. Good caring people zombie killing with some angst thrown in. :)
"Feel Good Zombie Apocalypse"
I was excited to find Sarah Lyons Fleming had released another book in the Until the End realm. I loved the first series and have listened to it multiple times. I must admit I love this book more than any of the three in the original trilogy and novella.
I love how real these characters were, how SLF made them loveable even with their flaws. Sylvie's and Grace's friendship is enviable. The humor between them and Sylvie and Eric is perfect. I never thought a post apocalyptic book could make me laugh out loud so many times, as well as feel fear or sadness.
This book has joined my top 5 books of all times. SLF has a real gift for words. I can't wait for the next book.
"Feel Good Zombie Stories!"
Loved it! If you are new to this author, stop! Check out her trilogy + novella, Until The End of The World. Mordacious is a spin off of that series. It is not essential that you read Until the End of the World first to enjoy this book, but I recommend you do.
Do you like zombie / survival stories – but hate to get bogged down with endless tragedy and after tragedy? I love apocalyptic novels, but I am often turned off by plots that take the reader down a dark hole (evil humans, society at its worst, characters spending the entire book trying to find a way out of a hopeless and ugly scenarios). While Fleming’s novels include all these elements, her books center on the dynamics of the survival group. The plot is centered on her characters, their struggles, and growth – that happen to be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
Fleming wrote the first “Feel Good” Zombie story I have ever read – and it was such a breath of fresh air! That is, when my heart wasn’t racing from fearing for my beloved characters well being and safety.
Narration: I am a narrator snob. I have loved Luke Daniels since “The Druid” series… he does a fine job here. I am new to Therese and thought she was a little better fit for the character she’s playing. The story is told from two points of view, so that is why we get a male and female narrator. When the two characters are together, the narrators get to play off each other, the narration really shines. I saw one negative review of the narration and I honestly don’t know what they are talking about. The narration is great.
Can't wait for the next installment!
"This book was so satisfying!"
I previously read it before I listened to the audiobook. I think I enjoyed reading it better, but I still loved listening to it.
Sylvie and Eric were probably tied. They are both so funny and witty and i obviously love what's happening between them. Sylvie isn't afraid to stand up for herself and her friends. She doesn't realize the impact that she has on people. She thinks she isn't worth anyone's friendship, but she doesn't realize that anyone she meets loves her. Eric gets her. Knows when to push her and when to back off. He gives her time to adjust to him and he respects her personality traits.
Sarah has a way with words. She could write the dictionary and I would still listen to it all in one sitting.
If you haven't read the prequel series to this, you are missing out. It's called "Until the End of the World" and it has three books. They are so phenomenal. I have re listened and re read probably a dozen times. Do yourself a favor ;) This series is setting up to be the same. I love her writing. And her plot twists.
"I have listened...."
I have listened this series Starting with Cassie's Journey & all she went through!! I was excited to find this book about her brother Eric & his Journey! I can't wait for the next book to come out!! Even though this series has new narrators they did an amazing job! In a way I'm glad Sarah Lyons Fleming switched narrators for this series! DON'T GET ME WRONG THE OTHER NARRATOR WAS JUST AS AMAZING but I like her voices for Cassie, Nelly, Penny, Anna & Peter as well as all the other Characters for that series! So it's good to have new narrators for Eric & his group!
"Love this. More please!"
This was a long one but I liked it so much I barely noticed and now I can't wait for more. Hats off the narrators for pulling off so many different voices. Luke Daniels is one of the best. The story was great, the characters were interesting and there's so much potential for the series. Seriously great listen.
To say I was excited to see a new book out by Sarah Lyons Fleming is an understatement. After finishing. I feel the need to go back & relisten to her Until the End of the World series and at this point I think I will read everything she writes.
"MUCH MORE THAN YOU EXPECT!"
Please don't think of this as another Zombie book. Sarah Lyons Fleming writes so much better than that. I read her first set of books and if you haven't you should!
This is more of a side story rather than a sequel. Same time frame but this group is in a different area. They are left behind in NYC when the bridges are all bombed. This is more than how they survive the crazy virus that produces zombies.
This is a human relationship book, how people bond together, and it gets your heartstrings just like her other books. You won't want it to end because you don't want to let these people go.
Narrations is perfect!
"I wasn't sure about this... however"
One of my favorite survival post apocalyptic stories.. the whole series is fantastic
I enjoyed the Mountain Man series, but this one is by far the best in this category and hope the next ones come out soon
the help you love the characters and enjoy the writing that much more.. again, I was hesitant after Julie Whelan did such a fantastic job on the previous series, but Luke and Theresa nailed it to the same 5 star standards.
Not cry but caught up in all the emotions... it's different than reading it.. more like watching a movie
Loved it and can't wait for Book 2... the detail, the characters.. the story... awesome.
I really enjoyed this book Sarah Lyons Fleming is becoming one of my favorite authors this book series is a side series to her original Three Books I would suggest reading them first
It was a very interesting book about people, who just happen to be dealing with the end of the world and zombies. And, although the heroine has baggage, or like Maria said "her baggage has baggage," she's not whining all the time and she kicks butt. I like that she's a sarcastic, funny, smartass.
Sylvie was my favorite
Yes. I actually want to listen to it again, which is rare for me.
It's a fun book if you like zombies & end-of-the-world stories, but it's not dark like The Road, which is an excellent book, but you have to be mentally prepared for it.
"Pure Zombie Joy!"
I love Sarah Lyons Flemings's other books she wrote about the Zombie Apocalypse and I was so thrilled when I found out that she wrote about Eric's and Maria's journey. (You don't have to read the other books before, to understand the story.) Fleming brings the characters alive and there's never a dull moment. Its funny, full of action and very addictive! I can't wait for the next books in this new series!
"Amazing! Can't recommend highly enough!!"
It's been so cool to see what happened to the other side of Cassie's family!
I was slightly worried that the city wouldn't live up to the excellence of the 'end of the world ' trilogy but I needn't have worried as this book was just as good! The characters are fantastic and I think she should never stop writing these stories! I could listen forever. The narrators are fantastic as well!
Please hurry with the next one, I'm starting to get withdrawal lol!
"I really love this series of books."
I've listened to all the books in the serise twice so far. I love the characters, the story lines and the threads of connection between survivors. Listening to what Cassies brothers journey has been like and the people hes met and their survival in the city through another strong yet vulnerable female character. I love it! Great listen... Can't wait for book 2 in the city series... Bring it on! 🤗
This is a must read. So we'll written, I always wondered what happened to Maria, now I know and can't wait for the next book in this new series.
"Better than the 'end of the world' series"
I finished this book in a split sitting. My family were none too happy with me but I don't care, I haven't been this glued to my ear buds for a long time. Where End of the world focused on Cassie and her group of friends, The City series follows what happened to her brother Eric who, unaware that she made it out, travels in to the city find her. The other protagonist is Sylvie, a woman whose past makes it hard to trust anyone and has to come to the understanding that in order to survive she has to start trusting and open her heart. We also get to find out what happened to Maria, Penny and Anna's beloved mother.
What I love about this book is the wider array of characters that Fleming has introduced. There is far more depth and emotion to them than in the previous series and I find myself wanting to know more and caring about them all in a way that was lacking in the previous series. They don't just feel like 'fillers' to move the story along, they feel like real people.
Narration is perfect with both Daniels and Plummer injecting just the right amount of humour in the witty banter between Eric and Sylvie and a serious amount of desperation and emotion when describing contact with the Lexers.
My only disappointment is that the next in the series isn't ready for me!
Great story and characters. Just as good as Until The End of The World trilogy. This is no sloppy sequel. Enjoy
"Wonderful moving and heartwarming"
The whole series is excellent! Ive loved and hated and laughed and cried. Please keep these coming.
"Feminist Zombie novel, shrill narration..."
..lots of crying. Gave up after a couple of hours. Sorry men, nothing is sacred.
