Never look back. Alex Verus is a diviner who can see probable futures - a talent that's gotten him and his friends out of many a tough scrape. But what happens when someone doesn't want Alex's help?
Alex's friend, the life mage Anne, distanced herself from him when she found out about his past as a Dark apprentice. Now she's in serious trouble but wants nothing to do with him. Alex has to start wondering if Anne's problem is really with him - or if there's a secret she's trying to hide. On top of that, rumours are swirling around London that Alex's former master may be back in town. Alex has no idea what his agenda may be or who it involves....

"Series starts off as good and ends up great."
I've done a couple of reviews for books in this series recently and have said nearly everything there is to say without giving away spoilers. The plot was great, the narration keeps improving and I was pulled in from start to finish. Despite the fact that the main hero is male, there are several really strong and varied females in the cast, which makes this an equally good listen regardless if you are male or female. This review is really just to confirm that it keeps getting better and there isn't a weak or filler book in it so far. I ended up listening to the books back to back, despite the fact that I've other purchases I should be listening to first. The next book is due in August and I will definitely be pre-ordering this if it come to Audible UK.
You do need to listen in order as while each book has it's own story there are new characters introduced and an overarching plot. Since Audible now has the lot but hasn't series linked them yet, this is: Fated, Cursed, Taken, Chosen and Hidden.
"Another great part to the series"
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and already stated the next one.
A bit imaginative, or is it.
Either way you get absorbed and enjoy the story.
Very good narration.
"magic and conflict"
Love this series. the narrator is good and makes the characters come alive. however he sounds older than the character of Virus is supposed to be.
I will listen to the whole series .
"When hints become facts"
Quite a few facts about characters that have been only hinted at in previous novels get an explanation. And the explanations are as riveting as the action scenes!
Although the story is globally very well thought out, it's the small details that flesh it out that I like the most.
A certain allusion to the Babylon 5 universe... Funny as hell!
As always, the story builds up in a way that enables the reader to empathize more and more with the characters.
The whole series has become 'mature'. The characters are well rounded and very human (i.e. flawed), except maybe for a certain reddish animal.
I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this series of books. I am especially looking forward to the next one on pre-release already. If you have enjoyed such books as rivers of London then you will most likely enjoy these as well. Though I did need to look up the order of the books on the author's website.
"Great series, great book"
Yes - when the next book comes out I'll be tempted to listen from the beginning
The book opens up to the darker side of Alex and gives more insight to his past and anxieties
This is another excellent rendition in the series
The pace was good and I could have listened all the way through
This was a great book it would be up there in my top 10
This is mutch darker than the previous books, but it was good to know more about the shadow realm and about Anne and Vari, and there background story, in more detail. Iq just wish that Sonder would get over it, sometimes you have to do the worse to survive
He has got much better with each book, and I no longer compare him to James Marsters and the Dresden Files audio books he has really made these books his own
If you like the Dresden Files try this the magic is different but the story is good
"loving the series it held me gripped until the end"
great series. great story. fantastic narration. I loved every minute of it and can't wait for the next book.
