Gundagai, 1852. The powerful Murrumbidgee River surges through town leaving death and destruction in its wake. It is a stark reminder that while the river can give life, it can just as easily take it away. Wagadhaany is one of the lucky ones. She survives. But is her life now better than the fate she escaped? Forced to move away from her miyagan, she walks through each day with no trace of dance in her step, her broken heart forever calling her back home to Gundagai.

Thomas Nagel's Mortal Questions explores some fundamental issues concerning the meaning, nature, and value of human life. Questions about our attitudes to death, sexual behavior, social inequality, war, and political power are shown to lead to more obviously philosophical problems about personal identity, consciousness, freedom, and value. This original and illuminating book aims at a form of understanding that is both theoretical and personal in its lively engagement with what are literally issues of life and death.

Story
In Teaching to Transgress, Bell Hooks - writer, teacher, and insurgent black intellectual - writes about a new kind of education, education as the practice of freedom. Teaching students to "transgress" against racial, sexual, and class boundaries in order to achieve the gift of freedom is, for Hooks, the teacher's most important goal. Bell Hooks speakes to the heart of education today: how can we rethink teaching practices in the age of multiculturalism? What do we do about teachers who do not want to teach, and students who do not want to learn? How should we deal with racism and sexism in the classroom? Full of passion and politics, Teaching to Transgress combines a practical knowledge of the classroom with a deeply felt connection to the world of emotions and feelings. This is the rare book about teachers and students that dares to raise questions about eros and rage, grief and reconciliation, and the future of teaching itself.

Story
This is a difficult piece to write. It cuts closer to the bone than most of what I have written; closer to my bones, through my blood and flesh to the bones of truth and country; there is truth here, not disguised but in the open, and that truth hurts. Colonisation in Australia is not over. Colonisation is a process, not an event - and the after-effects will continue while there are still people to remember it.

Story
This is the story of one of Australia's first true heroes Pemulwuy. A proud and feared Aboriginal warrior, Pemulwuy leads an uncompromising twelve-year war against British colonial oppression and makes the supreme sacrifice in order to guide his people to safety. Most histories of Australia start with the First Fleet and the hard times the colonists had with the climate and unruly convicts. Very few mention what really happened or the blood that was spilled in the wars never spoken of.

Story
Before a vision of a mysterious "Lady" invited Clark Strand and Perdita Finn to pray the rosary, they were not only uninterested in becoming Catholic but finished with institutional religion altogether. Their main spiritual concerns were the fate of the planet and the future of their children and grandchildren in an age of ecological collapse. But this Lady barely even referred to the Church and its proscriptions. Instead, she spoke of the miraculous power of the rosary to transform lives and heal the planet, and revealed the secrets within the rosary’s prayers and mysteries.

Publisher's Summary
A paradigm-shifting book in the vein of Sapiens that brings a crucial Indigenous perspective to historical and cultural issues of history, education, money, power and sustainability - and offers a new template for living.
As an Indigenous person, Tyson Yunkaporta looks at global systems from a unique perspective, one tied to the natural and spiritual world. In considering how contemporary life diverges from the pattern of creation, he raises important questions. How does this affect us? How can we do things differently?
In this thoughtful, culturally rich, mind-expanding book, he provides answers. Yunkaporta’s writing process begins with images. Honouring Indigenous traditions, he makes carvings of what he wants to say, channelling his thoughts through symbols and diagrams rather than words. He yarns with people, looking for ways to connect images and stories with place and relationship to create a coherent world view, and he uses sand talk, the Aboriginal custom of drawing images on the ground to convey knowledge.
In Sand Talk, he provides a new model for our everyday lives. Rich in ideas and inspiration, it explains how lines and symbols and shapes can help us make sense of the world. It’s about how we learn and how we remember. It’s about talking to everyone and listening carefully. It’s about finding different ways to look at things. Most of all, it’s about a very special way of thinking, of learning to see from a native perspective, one that is spiritually and physically tied to the earth around us, and how it can save our world.

Sand Talk Song Lines and Finding the future
I don't think I can praise Tyson Yunkaporta or the wonderful people he travelled country with and mutually opened dialogue with the diverse keepers of knowledge in Australia respecting what can and what can not be divulged.
I will need to quietly and respectfully think on all I have heard, felt, dreamt during my first journey through this book. I know I will need to revisit Sand talk again, maybe many times, as I awaken my own cultural journey.
You don't need to come to Sand Talk with any particular attitude or outcome in mind, just listen, think, apply it to yourself, your life journey so far and see where you decide to go. This is not a user guide for tie dyed shirts, bongos and navel contemplation - it is a journey of realisation, respect and connection.
Excellent tome. Thank You bother.

Think your head off
Listened to it for the second time and still found myself making connections across numerous fields of study. The systems and metaphors which are, according to the author, rooted in indigenous knowledge help summarise and clarify knowledge across the world's numerous ways of knowing, both 'imperial' and 'indigenous'.
Fundamentally, we all know our place and what we should be doing. we just need to be reminded, repeatedly and in different ways. This is a way that works for me. Perhaps it'll work for you too.

Relatable wisdom transmitted through authentic story telling in his own voice. I am deeply grateful to the author for the risks he has taken in endevouring to translate this content into a format the makes it accessible to people all over the world, so that we can be enriched by it. Please keep being brave in the dissemination of indigenous knowledge. Nga mihinui, Tyson.
