Story
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Excellent series and a brilliant performance!
I'm not a professional critic and I can't comment on things like pacing or structure of a storyline. What I can say is that this series has been one of the most entertaining and for me original stories I have read or listened to. I thoroughly enjoyed every book and was sad to finish each one. I don't know if this is the end if the series but if so I look forward to the next book from Benedict Jacka!
It should also be said that a large part of my enjoyment came from Gildart Jackson's outstanding performance. I have stopped listening to some audio books in the past because the narrator annoyed me or was plain dreadful. Not here. Loved it!

Extraordinary Conclusion to an Extraordinary Story
Benedict manages to bring the story to an exemplary conclusion with this masterpiece of urban fantasy. I can wholeheartedly recommend this as a listen. Gildart Jackon's narration was as always excellent, it's always bliss when a narration makes characters immediately identifiable by their voice. Just splendid.

A good final chapter
To my mind, not many recent, long-running series have managed to really stick their endings - Jacka has done so superlatively.

It was ok
I was really looking forward to this but I have to say it really dragged out in places and got a bit annoying. Even though it was action-packed it felt like everything was in slow motion. Nothing really new or exciting happened. Enough already, I kept thinking! But it ended nicely with the possibilities for future books to go on different tangents left open.
