Publisher's Summary

Imprisoned pickpocket Loth isn't sure why a bunch of idiots just broke into his cell claiming they’re here to rescue the lost prince of Aguillon, and he doesn’t really care. They’re looking for a redheaded prince, and he’s more than happy to play along if it means freedom. Then, his cranky cellmate Grub complicates things by claiming to be the prince as well.

Now, they’re fleeing across the country, and Loth’s stuck sharing a horse and a bedroll with Grub while imitating royalty, eating eel porridge, and dodging swamp monsters and bandits.

Along the way, Loth discovers that there’s more to Grub than meets the eye. Under the dirt and bad attitude, Grub’s not completely awful. He might even be attractive. In fact, Loth has a terrible suspicion that he’s developing feelings, and he’s not sure what to do about that. He’d probably have more luck figuring it out if people would just stop trying to kill them.

At least they’ve got a dragon, right?

Delightful!

Really lovely queer erotic romance for fantasy nerds. The narrator’s performance was perfect for the story and he did the characters brilliantly.

great fun

Very reminiscent of TJ Klune's Verania series...but I didn't mind all that much since I loved that series so much and you really can't find a better role model for MM fantasy adventure romance.
A fun, sexy romp.
Very good narration, by the way.

These authors and Nick Russo = Amazing!

My first book by either of these authors and it was amazing!!!

I listened to this while driving to and from work, and at one point I laughed so hard I had to pull over because I had tears running down my face!

I'm a huge fan of narrator Nick. J. Russo, but I didn't realise he had this kind of range, He did an amazing job with these character's voices, and during the above spoiler scene, he was epic!!

I can't wait to start book two. I don't know why I left this one sitting on my TBR for so long, but I loved every moment.

Highly recommended!!!

A light, fluffy and fun fairytale!

A ragged band of heroes attempt a prison break to rescue the red-haired prince, only to find there are two red-haired prisoners in the cell, both claiming to be the prince. Involving an elf, dwarf, orc, teeny dragon, and a few humans, this light fantasy romance is firmly tongue-in-cheek with some fun banter. Conman and petty thief, Loth steals the show and most of the narration sits with him - this is his story of redemption as he slowly falls for a very sullen and cranky Grub (aka Prince Tarquin). This feels like YA territory with each peril resolving relatively easily, but the relationships are definitely adult. Nick J Russo gives everyone their own voice and his light mellow tones suit the fairytale nature of the story. It’s perfect summer reading / listening.

Very cute

A delightful story of a band and misfits trying to do a good thing. Lots of funny tongue in cheek moments, very cute relationships.
Just a good time, not epic or amazing in it's conflict's and resolutions but definitely enjoyable.

Fantastic, Fun, Fantasy.

Let me start by saying that Nick J Russo narrated the hell out of this story!! There are multi characters that have definite voices in Red Heir and Russo gave them all a strong voice. He made this fun book even more entertaining. The way he emphasised words or phrases, his comedic timing, it was plain fun and also endearing. Dave the orc and his dragon Pi, sorry if I spelt it wrong, I could only go off the pronunciation, were a bundle of something I don't quite know how to describe. And venenenomous = funny. The way Lord Doom kicked off made me burst into fits of laughter in the middle of the night.

Henry and Honey hit a sweet spot for me when they work together. Their Bad Boyfriends Inc series is a favourite. The blurb probably gives a good outline of the book, I'm not sure I actually read it, but if you like fantasy that isn't trying too hard to be confusing rather it transports you into a joyous and romantic place where anything is possible and a ragtag group become a team, this is a true gem.
