Publisher's Summary

A breathtaking exploration of memory and what it means to be human, Recursion is the follow-up novel to the smash-hit thriller Dark Matter, by Blake Crouch.

What if someone could rewrite your entire life?

'My son has been erased.'

Those are the last words the woman tells Barry Sutton before she leaps from the Manhattan rooftop. Deeply unnerved, Barry begins to investigate her death, only to learn that this wasn’t an isolated case. All across the country, people are waking up to lives different than the ones they fell asleep to. Are they suffering from False Memory Syndrome, a mysterious, new disease that afflicts people with vivid memories of a life they never lived? Or is something far more sinister behind the fracturing of reality all around him?

Miles away, neuroscientist Helena Smith is developing a technology that allows us to preserve our most intense memories and relive them. If she succeeds, anyone will be able to re-experience a first kiss, the birth of a child, the final moment with a dying parent.

Barry’s search for the truth leads him on an impossible, astonishing journey as he discovers that Helena’s work has yielded a terrifying gift - the ability not just to preserve memories but to remake them...at the risk of destroying what it means to be human.

One of the best books I've ever listened to or read.
I just can't stop thinking about it all the twists and turns. Brilliant.

Inception

If you loved the movie ‘Inception’, then this is a must-read book that unfolds like it was written specifically for Nolan to bring to life on the silver screen. Highly recommended!

An interesting take on one of those timey wimey stories. Was a little hard to follow at times with all the timelines but overall a well written and interesting story.

Enjoy the journey

This is the sort of thing I'd expected Inception to be; like Inception when it's conventional it falls apart, but unlike Inception it waits for the very end to do that.

The idea of a lesson really doesn't belong in this mind-bending story. But listening as the story goes is so fun. there's barely a dull moment. I've reccomended this to three people now, and it's best to go in cold.

A really interesting story

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this book. It’s my first Crouch book and I’ll certainly be getting more.
With aspects of William Gibson ‘s The Peripheral but an entirely different look at time and memory. Almost the new Micheal Crichton, with his own unique way of looking at things.
Enjoyed the voice actors immensely.

Wow! But did our brains in…

This review may of course be written in a timeline that no longer exists. Nonetheless it is a mind bending and addictive story. Well worth the time… in any timeline!

A must read!

This was a phenomenal listen. The narration was excellent and the story was utterly incredible. If you’re wondering whether you should listen just do it. You won’t regret it!

Yeah, Pretty Good

Not bad. Not quite as gripping as I'd hoped. Would be a brilliant TV series. Seriously though, it is a top shelf concept and utterly worthwhile spend and listen. It just lacked a little ..... energy .... sparkle .... je ne sais quoi .... ! I felt a little flat by the end. could have been just me. If you're on the fence take the plunge.

This book continues to deliver

Second time listening to this book and somehow I’m more enthralled? Fantastic writing, crouches’ storytelling is unparalleled and the development of the characters, combined with the chaotic ending leaves you on the edge of your seat.
