Publisher's Summary

A ruined life. A broken heart.

He thought it was the end, and his gun sat ready to make sure. But an oddball offer from his last friend comes at the literal last second. Curiosity gets the best of him, and he finds himself sucked into iNcarn8, a game claiming to be a whole new life.

Now, as Montana, the larger-than-life tank warrior, he has one more last time to get his life right.

Great series

This is the first novel in an ongoing series (13 so far) with a second series set in the same world (9 books so far). The characters are great, their adventures epic, the game aspect is woven in to the story well, without dominating the narrative. Heaps of fun!

mc is WHINEY

the mc is super depressing and whiney supporting characters seem too forget his origins from another world constantly and spend tons of time complaining that the mc doesn't know basic things. the book has potential but dear God it was hard too keep going sometimes

Authors not yet sure what he wants his MC to be

Let me start this by saying I forced myself through this series and it did get better by maybe book 2 or 3. (I was really bored and couldn't find a book I hadn't read/listened to in the LitRPG Genre)
Now to book 1: It is obvious when someone listens or reads this book that the author has not yet set the character for his MC or doesn't explain the circumstances around their MC well enough to explain them acting or doing something completely out of character.

Lets list the split personalities which is this MC shall we:
- MC #1: is a badass fighting machine with quick adaptability, whose fought his way out of the muck of society and has street smarts. Likewise he's battled with his conscience due to the things he needed to do ... Basically thug with a heart etc. - OK decent start no problem, i think this was the MC the author wanted to initially portray.

- MC #2: kind of goofy soft headed MC who's kind of chill and goes with the flow with things happening around/to him and completely disregards or overlooks obvious things just because... (this criticism is later halfheartedly addressed by the author in book 4 or 5 but doesn't make this criticism any less relevant/infuriating) - Complete opposite to MC #1

- MC #3: the deeply emotional and thoughtful/smart MC who battles with moral decisions in the new world etc - kind of still in line with MC#1 but he acts in a way as if he has no basis to make these decisions, like he's never been faced with these decisions before.

- MC #4 the god awful!: this is the "I'm so dense and cant help but be an annoying imbecile because..." - This right here made me put the book down multiple times and i could not stand it for days especially how completely different it is compared to the other MC's. This MC was born out of the three-way unholy matrimony of the author needing a devise for exposition, needing to push the story along by having him do completed dumb things and his attempt at bringing some humor into the MC iterations with other characters. There's nothing wrong with an MC that needs to learn and grow and thus needs to be taught but to make it in such a way as if he's the densest MC in the world after giving the impression that hes street smart and a badass just doesnt work.

Admittedly this story does gets a lot better by book 3 or 4 though the author keeps nailing in these moments when the MC throws all character development and learning out of the window just for the story to move forward. Its like he makes a dumb decision > says he wont do that again > then get new skill/ability/toy/etc and goes and does it again because he has to!

Gah!!! That's my rant on this one done... Basically i feel like the author wanted a hardcore MC at the start but along the way broke away from that and forgot to go back and rewrite the first half of the book to match it.
