Just as World War II called an earlier generation to greatness, so the climate crisis is calling today's rising youth to action: to create a better future. In Unstoppable, Bill Nye crystallizes and expands the message for which he is best known and beloved. That message is that with a combination of optimism and scientific curiosity, all obstacles become opportunities, and the possibilities of our world become limitless.
With a scientist's thirst for knowledge and an engineer's vision of what can be, Bill Nye sees today's environmental issues not as insurmountable, depressing problems but as chances for our society to rise to the challenge and create a cleaner, healthier, smarter world. We need not accept that transportation consumes half our energy and that two-thirds of the energy you put into your car is immediately thrown away out the tailpipe. We need not accept that dangerous emissions are the price we must pay for a vibrant economy and a comfortable life. Above all, we need not accept that we will leave our children a planet that is dirty, overheated, and depleted of resources. As Bill shares his vision, he debunks some of the most persistent myths and misunderstandings about global warming. When you are done listening, you'll be enlightened and empowered. Chances are you'll be smiling, too, ready to join Bill and change the world.

"As narrator, Nye uses his natural energy and enthusiasm to make this book compelling and thought-provoking.... He delivers his words masterfully and slows down a bit so we can more clearly understand the science behind his policy prescriptions." (AudioFile)
bill does an amazing job at explaining the vital points of not just the human impacts upon the planet, but also ways that we can change our world for the better. loved it.
A highly informative exposition of the issues surrounding climate change. Nye discusses the possible solutions at our disposal with a refreshingly optimistic outlook.
"Bill Nye is the Man, Man!"
Bill Nye did an excellent job of making an intelligent and thought provoking book about climate change and what we can do as a species to correct it. He starts out by talking about the problems and issues on a large scale and then brings it down to a smaller scale (his own house) in the second half of the book. Lots of puns and an excellent job of narrating. Enjoyed every second of it.
"Great book and audio book"
Read by Bill Nye himself. It's informed and educational and his speaking tone keep you invested.
"Couldn't stop listening!"
I enjoyed listening to the Science Guy's reading of Unstoppable. As a scientist, I found the book to be focused more on the technological/engineering aspects of climate change than the science, but that's okay, because the science behind the technology is fascinating. For anyone concerned that this book may be laden with smug, self-righteous preaching from the progressive pulpit and attempt to convert you to veganism or whatever (like impassioned pleas to fight climate change unfortunately tend to be), don't worry: This book is a rational argument for why we have to fix climate change, but absolutely do not have to regress from our American standards of living to do so. On that note, I'm glad Mr. Nye admits in Unstoppable that he has come to a more reasonable assessment of GMOs since publishing Undeniable. Like any scientifically-minded person, he was able to change his viewpoint after careful assessment of scientific data. I hope this book can inspire others to do so as well.
"We have some challenges ahead"
A tour through the technology that will save us, some simple, some very complex, an informative call to action to all those who wish for future generations to have what we had.
"Just as I expected, brilliant!"
This book went very into depth of the many struggles that face the human race. I definitely recommend it for anyone curious about the challenges we have to conquer to thrive. I suggest this book for anyone who is interested in science at least a little bit. Rockets, climate change, water salinity, bucky balls, they are all here!
"You must listen, your life depends on it!"
Excellent from start to finish. Valuable information and ideas we all can use. Once again, thank you Mr. Science Guy!
"Bill Nye, the great author guy!"
I love when an author narrates their own books. They know the proper inflection, to move the listener into a unified thought process. I've loved Nye's work since I was a teen in the 90's. And to learn so much from the likes of him, Neil Tyson, Susskind, Sagan, makes me feel like I too can be a physicist... Except for all the math... But alas, Nye breaks things down to make this a wonderful listen!
"what a great book"
amazing book, full of information, tips, eye opening facts and well put into context data.
"Bill bill bill"
Bill nye the science guy. Bill bill bill bill bill bill bill bill bill bill good read
My thanks to Mr. Nye for his continuing efforts to make the case for science and reason, for their own sake as well as how they enable us to live better lives, philosophically and materially alike. This book, clear and passionate, might well be his dissertation on the subject. I recommend it to everyone.
"Truly thought provoking"
Absolutely loved it. Fastest book I've finished, yet it has really left me thinkIng about many aspects I need to change in my way of life.
"Best book on Audible"
This should be compulsory reading for every person on earth. Such a tough subject made so interesting. Trust Bill Nye to take you on a journey. Been a big fan since the Science guy days. Now an even bigger one!
Everything from this audio book just worked and inspired me to really make a change to how I think and work to be more efficient.
"Great audio book"
Very captivating and interesting listen. Nye's enthusiasm will have you hooked til the ens. Time for change!
A really inspiring book about the current state of climate and how we really could do more with less!!
Together we could change the world!
"A beautiful explanation, like no other"
I have not read (and am unaware of) a print version to this audio book. Doubtlessly I would read it, however Bills reading is phenomenal. It is concise, simple (though thoroughly in depth) and entertaining.
"the science of every day life" by Marty Jopson has a similar vibe to it. It attempts to relieve some of the complexity around some of the more interesting things which go unnoticed in our day to day life.
Comparisons can also be drawn to "On the Origin Of Species" and the "Selfish gene". Both due to the similarity in topic, but also die to the gifted nature of the auther / speaker.
There is a reason Bill Nye is the prominent figure in mainstream science that he is. He is extremely witty, humble and intellectual.
This is NOT the book (/audio book) to convince a disbeliever in evolution of its validity. It is less concerned with arguing contradictory claims, and more concerned with highlighting simple beauties that may not have been considered by an evolution lover/thinker/scientist
"Motivating, entertaining, and informing.. but!"
This has been a pleasurable book to listen to. It was nice that the writer himself narrated the book; he really made it come to life, but a bit too much sometimes that you hope he'd calm down a bit.
The content itself is nice because it is varied and informative, but still could have been much better. There was a chapter or two supposedly talking about how an individual can reduce his or her Carbon print, but it mostly addressed those of the high or upper middle class only! A much better job could have been done here.
In addition, there were a couple of chapters about space exploration that only remotely fit here; they could have been replaced by something more relevant.
But again, I only mentioned the negatives because they are few and specific. Otherwise this is a very fun book. Truly motivating, entertaining, and informative.
"mein kampf of leftie propaganda"
the book's facts are along the lines of "We, the chosen ones of the left, the morally superior and benevolent know better than anyone else and our facts tramp anyone else's facts"
narrator is marginally less annoying that the ideas he tries to flog
