Publisher's Summary

In The Lost Girls, John Glatt tells the truly amazing story of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight - who were kidnapped, imprisoned, and repeatedly raped and beaten in a Cleveland house for over a decade by Ariel Castro - and their amazing escape in May 2013, which made headlines all over the world.

This audiobook has an exclusive interview with Castro's secret girlfriend, who spent many romantic nights in his house of horror without realizing that he had bound and chained captives just a few feet away. There are also revealing interviews with several Castro family members, musician friends, and neighbors who witnessed the dramatic rescue.

A bit too long and repetitive

Would you try another book written by John Glatt or narrated by Shaun Grindell?

Not written by John Glatt.

What was most disappointing about John Glatt’s story?

The book was really detailed on events that seemed tangential to the main story. It was also repetitive, and overall could've been about 30% shorter.

An amazing story told in an ordinary fashion

If you could sum up The Lost Girls in three words, what would they be?

Repetitive, lacking depth

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

There is way too much reading verbatim from police reports/court testimony and some of the facts are repeated over and over, causing me to tune out and skip ahead. The background story is necessary but is too long and take focus away from the main story

What three words best describe Shaun Grindell’s voice?

Aussie done poorly

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No emotion as there was little of the in depth emotional recounts you would expect from a story like this. It was basically a retelling of facts, and no actually interviews with the victims. Disappointing.

Poor girls

Wow. They suffered badly. I can not comprehend the daily abuse that the poor girls were exposed too.

Highly recommend

This must be the most significant and most moving book I have ever read( listened to).
And I have read SO MANY!!!
It moved me emotionally in ways none others have.
I knew of this case but this was so thorough, so well written, so well narrated that I just couldn’t put it down.
But also it left me devastated that these people walk among us.
That someone could do this to our daughters.
Highly recommend

horrific

Hearing the story of what these women endured for such a long period of time almost defies belief. The horrors they would have endured is unimaginable and the fact that his daughters knew the victims somehow makes this crime even worse.

I truly wish all the victims the best and hope they are able to get on with life despite the horrific trauma they have endured. I don’t even know what else to say about this book without including any spoilers.

I enjoy John Glatt’s books and Shaun Grindell seems to narrate most of them. He sounded very different in this book, not sure if this was an earlier narration of his and he has since taken on a more serious tone when narrating.

Sad and poignant

A terrible story of captivity and abuse. I would have liked to hear more from the girls themselves but respect they likely don’t wish to do this. A good listen overall.

Definitely Read/Listen

A story that is about courage, survival, resilience and 3 incredible women. It is hard to listen to at times, but I wanted to hear their story.

Wow! What a read!

Living in Australia, I was not familiar with these girls who had gone missing. I couldn’t stop listening. So sad and horrifying to hear what these poor girls went through. I’m so glad they were freed and that the perpetrator convicted.
