Publisher's Summary

On July 22, 2009, a special meeting was held with 24 leading scientists at the National Institutes of Health to discuss early findings that a newly discovered retrovirus was linked to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), prostate cancer, lymphoma, and eventually neurodevelopmental disorders in children. When Dr. Judy Mikovits finished her presentation the room was silent for a moment, then one of the scientists said, "Oh my God!" The resulting investigation would be like no other in science. For Dr. Mikovits, a 20-year veteran of the National Cancer Institute, this was the midpoint of a five-year journey that would start with the founding of the Whittemore-Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease at the University of Nevada, Reno, and end with her as a witness for the federal government against her former employer, Harvey Whittemore, for illegal campaign contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. On this journey, Dr. Mikovits would face the scientific prejudices against CFS, wander into the minefield that is autism, and through it all struggle to maintain her faith in God and the profession to which she had dedicated her life. This is a story for anybody interested in the peril and promise of science at the very highest levels in our country.

    Story
    "Far Beyond Compelling"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Only if they though they could handle it. If they don't mind having their faith shaken or if they are a true medical cynic (like myself).

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

I have never had a book of any kind make me as angry from beginning to end as this book did. It is an indictment of our criminal justice system, our governmental medical bureaucracy, the scientific laboratory and clinical research community and indeed our medical belief system.

What three words best describe Eric Martin’s voice?

    Articulate, authoritative, emotive

but this was frequently destroyed for me by the gross mispronunciation of many medical and scientific terms. A scientific adviser is a must

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It IS what you don't know that can hurt you

    Story
"Eye opening. The story amazed me"

This book is an eye opening account that introduced a lot of new information interwoven with the story. I enjoyed listening to the audio version, which is very well performed in confidential style that is appealing. I could also easily repeat a particularly educational and interesting segment. Take the chance and read it, it triggers a lot of questions on health and viruses, vaccines and illness.... What to speak of the shocking political and legal infractions. I find the book and its authors courageous and an introduction to the important awakening to an awareness of some of what is really going on in the shocking world of research and vaccines etc. Hopefully this will trigger saving lives of children and adults...

    Story
"So Dry, it crackles! But vitally important."

The story is almost unbelievable in its unfairness. But it points up the cronyism amount the scientific community and their donors as well as Big Pharma.
If only this book could describe the riveting story without repeating over and over again, the technical terms, the confusing names of viruses, drugs, cells and macrophages!
Everyone should hear this story, however the details should be an addendum at the end of the book.

    Story
    "Interesting content badly edited."

The story bounces around in time, which made it very difficult to stay interested in the book. The content on the other hand looks intriguing and one wonders what will happen in the future.

    Story
"an insight into what you won't be told by your dr"

if you are trying to get your head around cfs
/me and like to make your own mind up about things rather than be told what to think...then this is the book for you!
In this book another side to what this debilitating condition is all about is discussed and referenced. plenty if food for thought for the Dr carer or sufferer. Current and up to date.
