Juan Martinez, the fiery prosecutor who convicted notorious murderess Jodi Arias for the disturbing killing of Travis Alexander, speaks for the first time about the shocking investigation and sensational trial that captivated the nation.
Through two trials, America watched with bated breath as Juan Martinez fought relentlessly to convict Jodi Arias of murder one for viciously stabbing her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, to death. What emerged was a story wrought with sex, manipulation, and deceit that stunned the public at every turn. Arias, always playing the wronged and innocent woman, changed her story continually as her bizarre behavior surrounding the crime and its aftermath came to light. Unwavering, Arias and her defense team continued to play off the salacious details of the case until she was finally found guilty and - controversially - sentenced to life behind bars.
Now, speaking openly for the first time, prosecutor Juan Martinez will unearth new details from the investigation that were never revealed at trial, exploring key facts from the case and the pieces of evidence he chose to keep close to the vest. Throughout the trials, his bullish and unfaltering prosecution strategy was both commended and criticized, and in his audiobook, Martinez will illuminate the unique tactics he utilized in this case and how they led to a successful conviction, and - for the first time - discuss how he felt losing the death penalty sentence he'd pursued for years.
Going beyond the news reports, Martinez will explore the truth behind the multiple facades of Jodi Arias. Sparring with her from across the stand, Martinez came to know Arias like no one else could, dissecting what it took for a seemingly normal girl to become a deluded, cunning, and unrepentant murderer.
With new stories from behind the scenes of the trial and Martinez's own take on his defendant, the book takes you inside the mind of Jodi Arias like never before.

"Never Understood His Questioning Technique Before"
I watched the whole trial and really miss In Session, TruTV is just garbage programming now.
This book has a lot of neat little details about the investigation and prosecution that I never knew before. I remember watching his cross examination of Arias thinking, "What the heck is he doing?"
I didn't understand why he would suddenly drop a line of questioning to pursuit another topic. He was absolutely right about doing that so she couldn't think ahead and make up excited for everything.
"Riveting! Impressive "
Having followed the majority of the original trial of Jodi Arias, I felt I was familiar with the details and circumstances surrounding her case. However, this book fills in many of the gaps I obviously missed while emotionally absorbed in the spectacle of the trial as it unfolded in real time.
At that time, my thought was that Juan Martinez excelled in his approach to- and execution of - her prosecution. This was definitively confirmed while listening to his book, CONVICTION, via Audible. The details presented here by Mr. Martinez flesh out the multiple twists and turns of the actual event. His doggedness in the gathering of evidence, as well as his masterful ingenuity in developing the case against Jodi Arias, are impressive - satisfying for anyone who hoped for justice for Travis Alexander.
The crime was indeed heinous and HEARTBREAKING. The fact that Mr. Martinez personally devoted so many years to uncovering the truth is not only laudable but intensely HEARTWARMING.
In addition, Patrick Lawlor - whose voice sounds almost identical to Mr. Martinez - brought the circumstances and characters to life. His narration was flawless! I was riveted throughout the entire listening experience. both the book itself, and the performance are captivating. A+
Juan Martinez invested countless hours formulating a strategy and an order for witnesses, questioning, and when to reveal information. His meticulous preparation for this trial was amazing to listen to. I finished listening to this book in two days. He's a fantastic prosecutor!
"Loved it. Kept my attention through the entire book!"
After listening to Serial and undisclosed podcasts I was looking for something similar. Who knew murder cases would be so appealing to me. 😕 haha But this book was well written and they picked the right person to read it.
A quickly moving read! Find out why those gas cans were so important to the case!
I couldn't put this book down, prosecuting at its's best! The element of surprise of the prosecution was awesome!
This book follows the trial accurately but leaves out some of the behind the scenes activities that I wanted to hear about. Having listened to Jeff Ashton's book on the Casey Anthony trial, this book was disappointing in that it really only talked about what happened in the court room. I watched the trial of Jodi Arias so I was hopping to hear more insight about what it was like for Juan Martinez and more of the interaction with Travis Alexander's family. I wanted more feeling, not just a play by play of the trail. It was entertaining but the actual trial was way better.
An interesting book in the sense to hear Juan thoughts and process with this case; however I honestly expected more details then what was brought out in trial. I listened to this trial everyday and Juan's book pretty much was what was in that trial!!
"Prosecutor's speak for victims."
As an avid watcher of the trial, I already knew most of the material. However it was very interesting to hear piece by piece how he put this cold blooded murderer in jail
"Justice was served !"
I enjoyed listening to this book, I had started with the hopes of learning something new re: the case, however it contained 98% of info that most of the public already knew, especially those of us who were vigilant in keeping up with the day to day during ,before ,and after trial. I absolutely love Juan and think he did a fantastic job of making sure Jodi would spend the rest of her pathetic life behind bars!!! Juan is the BEST !!
"One of this year's most awaited true crime books"
I followed the Jodi Arias case since I watched a 48 Hours Mystery documentary about it. It was great to hear all the stuff that went on 'behind the courtains' in preparation for the trial and Martinez's description of the case from beginning to end.
Martinez' description of his cross examination of Jodi Arias was good.
lnteresting portrayal of the case from the prosecuters side. Very well narrated and easy to listen to. Very in depth and detailed. highly recommend
"Loved this book!"
Really impressed by this book. Iv watched this trial from the uk. And watched it live on stream when they sentenced Jodi. When I bought the book I was curious if it was just like the trial but there's more to it. Juan goes in much more detail from the first phone call he had to go on the case, walking into trial, speaking with witnesses, with Jodi, to the time he leaves. Brilliant book !
"Fascinating account of a major trial"
This case caught America's attention for several years and for several reasons. The accused, Jodi Arias, was photogenic; her story seemed almost too fantastic to be believable (it was); and there was photographic proof of her moving the corpse of her boyfriend, Travis,
In the event, the prosecution deconstructed her lies and used incontrovertible evidence based on sound investigative work. The author goes into detail about how he did this and how, when it seemed he had hit a brick wall, his persistence in assessing all of the evidence paid off.
It brings home the fact that what we see in the nightly news is a distillation of years of hard work by law enforcement and men and women like Martinez. Conversely, as a comparison, it also highlights just how poorly-researched and dubious some other prosecutions have been in recent years.
Anyway, the book was well written and the narration first class. I'd recommend this to those who enjoy true crime and those who like to read about trials or stand-out cases.
Very interesting to hear how the prosecution planned out exactly how he would present the case and his thought process along the way. highly recommend
"I love this"
Brilliant. I followed the whole trial on television and found Jodi Arias a most vile person. I felt sorry for Juan Martinez having to prosecute such a lying, manipulating, immoral but very clever speciman of human life.
She had no feeling for Travis' s family or her own family. How she could say such cruel lies about both families and not bat an eyelid beggars belief, but shows she has no regard for anyone so that the public should look upon her with pity. Her persona certainly gives the impression of sweetness and innocence. Her voice, her clothes, goofy spectacles and the coyness she displays all add to her look that she couldnt possibly have carried out such a premeditated heinous crime.
The book gives examples of events never disclosed in the trial. In fact I watched relevant parts of the trial again after Martinez had explained events that had been withheld during the trial. All very interesting.
I could go on and on about how I enjoyed this book.
A 5 star read regardless of how much a person knows of this unbelievable trial.
"Author self-involved, voice a bit irritating"
A compelling case covered by the key prosecution who I found to be incredibly self-involved throughout this book. The narrator also has a very irritating voice, and laughable voice for the defendant which was a little off-putting. Nonetheless, interesting behind-the-scenes insight into a fascinating true crime.
