Publisher's Summary

Major Calborne Rutherford returns to England on the trail of an assassin, only to find he's become Lord Ashendon, with the responsibility for vast estates and dependent relatives. Cal can command the toughest of men, but his wild half-sisters are quite another matter. They might just be his undoing.

When he discovers that Miss Emmaline Westwood, the girls' former teacher, guides them with ease, Cal offers her a marriage of convenience. But strong-minded and independent Emm is neither as compliant nor as proper as he expected, and Cal finds himself most inconveniently seduced by his convenient wife.

Emm knows they didn't marry for love, yet beneath her husband's austere facade, she catches glimpses of a man who takes her breath away. As pride, duty, and passion clash, will these two stubborn hearts find more than they ever dreamed of?

great story and narration

another great story from this author.
lots of creative storyline. relationships are built between the characters delightfully.
delightful narration. I love the voices they were all pleasant and gave you the elegant regency era feeling with the accents. it's enjoyable to listen when the narration is so clear and calm to the ear. bought 2 more audio books in this series.

Good story

Struggled with the narrator. Very clipped, did not sound engaged with the story or characters. Some of the emphasis was really out of context.

Good storyline

Slightly predictable like many romances but enough twists and turns to keep it interesting and fun

Narrators voice 😵‍💫

Couldn’t listen to the narrator anymore and gave up. The story line may have improved but …

Narration!

I enjoy Anne Gracie’s books but the narration was really awful. It was almost robotic in style because the narrator stopped after almost every word so it didn’t flow at all. It was most peculiar and so irritating I almost didn’t finish the book.

Really terrible narrator

Like all Ann Gracie books the story was good and engaging but, this had to be one of the worst narrators ever. Almost ruined the experience and I have no idea how she even gets work doing this. Just awful!!

Story great, narrator terrible

What a shame! Anne Gracies stories are always so enjoyable but
I could only endure this narrator at 1:2 speed, as she was so stilted in narrarion of exposition. The dialogue was okay.

Worst narrator

I can't tell you what I liked about this book because the awful narrative meant I couldn't read past Chapter 2. I loved the Merrydew Sisters series and the narrator for them but this first book in the Marriage of Convenience has put me off reading any more.
