A new edition of David Attenborough's groundbreaking Life on Earth. David Attenborough's meeting with gorillas was one of the most unforgettable moments for millions of television viewers. With Life on Earth, Attenborough created a book and TV series that became a benchmark of quality, influencing a generation of nature lovers.

David Attenborough's internationally acclaimed book of the series was a worldwide best seller. Told through an examination of animal and plant life—with occasional juxtapositions of extinct fossil forms to reveal the origin of living creatures—Life on Earth is an astonishing celebration of the evolution of life on Earth, with a cast of characters drawn from the whole range of organisms that have ever lived on this planet. Attenborough's perceptive, dynamic approach to the evolution of millions of species of living organisms that populate the planet takes the listener on an unforgettable journey of discovery from the very first spark of life to the blue and green wonder we know today.

Now, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the book's first publication, David Attenborough has revised Life on Earth, updating and adding to the original text. This special anniversary edition provides a fitting tribute to an enduring wildlife classic. It will enthral the generation who saw it when first published and will bring it alive for a whole new generation.

Very descriptive and educational

Listening to this audiobook is literally like listening to the narration of David Attenborough's documentary but not seeing the visual. I think it's important to be able to see these animals to know what they look like and it's a bit hard to imagine them based on the description

Required listening

If you only pick one book to listen to, let it be Life on Earth, 40th Anniversary Ed. Beautifully told by the renowned man himself, Sir David Attenborough. Each chapter has a wonderful soundscape that really made this an atmospheric book. The last chapter and epilogue made me weep with just how marvellous a thing it is that we came into being and just how monumentally short-sighted and arrogant we are as a species. I truly hope we can have an 80th Anniversary edition of this book with a more positive update for an epilogue.
