Publisher's Summary

Young Linguists teaches kids essential language skills fast. That means 20-24 minute daily lessons to help kids stay engaged, and frequent repetition, which is scientifically proven to reinforce learning. We also narrow down vocabulary to the most-used words and phrases so that you are learning what you can apply. The course may feel fast at first, and your child won't feel like you are picking up everything right away, but over the course of the sessions they will become increasingly familiar with the key words and phrases of the course.

The key to learning is to engage with the material and spaces are provided throughout the audio course to practice the appropriate pronunciation and to test understanding of Japanese vocabulary. These books also included detailed sections in English on effective strategies for learning new languages and ideas to carry on learning and applying what you know once the course is complete.

In addition, there are complete review sections for learning, comprehension and speaking repetition. This is a complete language course to get your child proficient in a new language in just four weeks. Over 500 different words and phrases are included across 40 different themes and sections, including the key building blocks of greetings, adjectives, quantities, questions and responses, colors, places, emotions, time, food, transport, animals, positions, lots of tourist situations—from shopping to the pool and multiple sentence construction examples. Really enjoying it

Haha I’m not a kid anymore, but I chose this one because I thought it would be as simple and easy to digest basic Japanese as possible. I have not been disappointed!!

The narration is pretty relaxing too… I didn’t want a shouty one or one that I wouldn’t want to listen to, and the narration of this book is neither of those things.

I’m using the book in different ways, since I am choosing to dabble in Japanese instead of needing to fully learn it, I have no timeframe to learn spoken Japanese so I just play this audiobook when I genuinely want to. I have been listening every day, or even multiple times a day recently just out of sheer love of learning, but there will be days and weeks in the near future where I don’t feel like it. I re listen from the beginning oftentimes to try to get as much as possible out of it. I haven’t made it far enough in yet because I am still focusing on repeat listening to the first few chapters, but I will say that so far they haven’t taught any grammar, only word memorisation, they don’t even tell you Japanese word order (subject, object, verb), so I googled it. I’m also listening to a podcast that teaches Japanese and am practicing an anki deck that purports to teach the 100 most common Japanese words. I don’t intend to learn any Japanese script (but I might one day change my mind about that), so this audiobook is a perfect central tool to learn very basic Japanese. It is working, I am able to recall more words upon being asked, it has only been a few days so far, listening around my busy university schedule, but I can tell you; this book is worth buying. I can remember words and basic phrases that I learned in the only Japanese class I ever took, after being reminded in this book, and there are other words that I am in the process of committing to memory using it and anki

A couple extra things: I am not in any hurry to learn Japanese, and mainly want to learn it as it gives me options like visiting Japan on exchange one day and having something new to add to my resume. I would assume most people would want to learn Japanese scripts as alongside spoken Japanese, for that there could be better learning tools, for me it’s just that I want to be conversational in Japanese someday.
