Story
Irina obsessively takes explicit photographs of the average-looking men she persuades to model for her, scouted from the streets of Newcastle. Placed on sabbatical from her dead-end bar job, she is offered an exhibition at a fashionable London gallery, promising to revive her career in the art world and offering an escape from her rut of drugs, alcohol and extreme cinema. The news triggers a self-destructive tailspin, centred around Irina's relationship with her obsessive best friend and a shy young man from her local supermarket who has attracted her attention....

Story
Deep in Essex and her own thoughts, Sophie had a feeling something was going to happen and then it did. Chris has entered the pub and re-entered her life after Sophie had finally stopped thinking about him and regretting what she'd done. Sophie has a chance at creating a new ending and paying off her emotional debts (if not her financial ones). All she has to do is act exactly like a normal, well-adjusted person and not say any of her inner monologue out loud. If she can suppress her paranoia, pornographic visualisations and lying maybe she'll even end up getting the guy she wants?

Story
Mari and Elisabeth have been at the center of each other's lives for years. Close friends since university, they're now drifting through their mid-twenties, working casual jobs and living in run-down share houses. When they meet Jack, a charming academic historian twenty years their senior, they're attracted to the sophisticated, intellectual world in which he seems to move. As the summer gathers heat, Jack is drawn into their lives, and an unconventional relationship—halfway between friendship and love triangle—develops.

Story
What is the Rachel incident? When Rachel falls in love with her married professor, Dr. Byrne, her best friend James helps her devise a plan to seduce him. But as the plot becomes increasingly complicated, their friendship is tested by impossible choices and a lie that can't be taken back. Chaotic and brilliantly funny, The Rachel Incident perfectly captures the turmoil of young love.

Spot on!
This made me want to kms in the best way. Smart and searing nihilistic social commentary. Need to buy the physical copy so I can highlight a few things!

Sad Girl aesthetic
Sad girl books are usually my favourite books but this one. You know when you spend a ridiculous amount engaged in a parasocial relationship online… well times that by 10. I just wish the narrator gave us more of a conclusion.

Enthralling, psychotic
Beautifully written, very clever, but also extremely dark. Before listening, I read a review that said this is about experiencing a psychotic man, an abuser. That’s true, but the protagonist also appears to have been written as a clinical sociopath. She displays unapologetically cruel behaviour to those around her, shows limited empathy or guilt, lacks authentic relationships or a realistic internal narrative, talks about people (including partner and parents) in terms of what they give or take from her. And of course, she is a stalker. The audio also makes it feel gorgeously melancholic. I do wonder if my experience of the book would have been very different if I had chosen to read it. Anyway, I loved it! I couldn’t put it down, highly recommend!
