Publisher's Summary

This is no ordinary Cinderella story from #OwnVoices debut author Elle Cruz. Claire never believed in fairy tales - that is, until she met Nate - in this fun, flirty rom-com.

Claire Ventura is nothing like the poised and perfect heroines she reads about in her favorite romance novels. She’s a quirky, people-pleasing bookworm with a degree in women’s studies and an internet cookie decorator all rolled into a five-foot-two package fueled by chamomile tea.

And most of all, Claire loves her grandmother, Lola. Claire was always her favorite grandchild, and they shared a special bond. So when Lola inches into her 90s and Alzheimer’s starts chipping away at the vital and independent woman she used to be, the whole family dynamic starts shifting in a new direction.

Then Claire meets Nate, the CEO of a mega tech company, and he takes her to Paris. Hailed as the next Mark Zuckerberg, Nate is a fast-rising star in the tech industry, and he’s just fallen head-over-heels for Claire. Together, Claire and Nate must learn to navigate their personal and professional lives and, in the end, Nate proves to Claire that fairy tale endings are really just the beginning.

Robotic Narration

The story was ok, the main character was a little spineless which I know some people are like that but it was frustrating at times.. the narration I found mostly terrible.. sounding very robotic almost like Siri was reading from the book at points

whinny

Her family are harsh and mean, her sisters are rude and so whinny. She herself needs to get a back bone. The storyline was only okay. In my opinion not the greatest of books I've read better, sorry to author.

Story is ok, narration is not

Bordering on a DNF for me mostly because the narration is very stilted and robotic.

Naive flat one-dimensional repetitive

Boring flat characters, with no background to anybody but the two main ones. The heroine reads as if she was 13 not 30, and her guy who uses emotional blackmale is presented as an ideal man.
Sex scenes made me wince, instead of honesty there was a bit of misplaced crudity.
Maybe I didn't give the book a chance, as I stopped half way, but I just couldn't do it.

possibly the worst book I've ever read

The narration was stilted. To be honest it was just boring and I rolled my eyes through the whole story. I kept thinking "this has got to get better... something is about to happen". I'm afraid not.

Great story hard to listen narrator

Really enjoyed the story line but found the narrator really difficult to listen to. Awful accents and stilted reading.

Alive story with a difference

How fast can you fall in love? Life is hard. Clare works part time in a book shop andwants to start her own business but her Philipino family don't think she is on the right track. Her lola is old, ill and important to her but so is the man she meets by nearly tuning him down. Enjoyed this story.
