Drawing from her work as a psychoanalyst and cantadora (keeper of old stories), Dr. Estes uses myths and folktales to illustrate how societies systematically strip away the feminine spirit. Through an exploration into the nature of the wild woman archetype, Dr. Estes helps listeners rediscover and free their own wild nature.

"Her widely researched study offers usable advice for modern women." (Publishers Weekly)
Having read the book many years ago, I wanted a refresher and also to hear Dr. Estes own voice reading was really powerful.
Includes some powerful storytelling, Jungian symbol work and female wisdom that is relevant, important and beautifully delivered. Such a gift!
yes, but not an abrigded one
not enough of the book to tell
the feeling the narator brings and the music
What there was -great
would have liked the full book
"Guess I know what "Abridged" means now...."
Only if I could get the "entire" book on audio, didn't realize this wasn't the whole book
Love her storytelling!
The way she tells stories
I'm REALLY disappointed that this was so short - is there another way to get the entire book on audio?
I also have a new appreciation for the word 'abridged.' This book is difficult to 'summarize.' The audible version is a good overview, but I wish I knew that the stories would be missed. I would have spent this 2 hours reading my book book.
I read Women Who Run With The Wolves about two years ago. I was so inspired by the author's work that I made sure all my friends, men and women, knew about it. I think it is a must read, especially for women who feel a great need to rediscover and reclaim their sacred wolf bones in order to truly run free, without inhabition. Wild, like our nature. And especially for the men who love the wolf and want to understand her being and not capture her soul. I LOVE this audio. And the best part is Dr. Marissa Pinkola Estes narrated the audio book herself, now how lucky can one get?
"too abridged - too softly spoken"
I love the actual brick and mortar book . And I have two more of hers - unabridged - in my cart right now.
Too softly spoken. I listen while driving and it's hard to pay attention with her soft, slow voice. It also lulls me to sleep a little. I've restarted a couple times, realizing that my mind was wandering and I had missed so much.
I love the actual brick and mortar book - and it's huge. I can't believe they condensed it in to less than 3 hours. It's too abridged
Women who run with the wolves is my all time favorite book anyways. The audio version allows me to enjoy it on my commute. This is a great book to listen to when you need strength. Enjoy!
This audio was much easier to listen to than trying to read the book, which I found very hard going. The narration is perfect and the stories brilliant. I loved it.
She gives wonderful insight of how women should never underestimate thier power. Highly recommend to those who need a reminder.
"Unforgettable! One of a kind! Amazing!"
Narrated beautifully by the author. She has created a work so powerful, and unforgettable that 25 yrs after my first listen I am still spellbound. I have read the full book at least 5 times. I have listened to this shorter audio verson at least 10+ times. First at age 23, then at 30, then at 45. Each time I get deeper layers of insight, wisdom and empowerment. Not to mention sheer enjoyment. It enriches my appreciation of being both wild and feminine in their truest sense. It speaks to all women, of all backgrounds, ages, etc (I happen to be African-American). A book (in audio and print) I will always have to reread and/or rehear many, many more times. Thank you so much Dr. Estes. Thanks Audible as well for having it available in your selection.
"inspired to continue on shedding my many coats"
loved it! great words and emotionally provoking. inspired to continue on shedding my many coats.
This was far shorter than I expected. It was not clear just how abridged it was. Having read the book many years ago I was looking forward to hearing the depth of the work but it stopped after two chapters. I wouldn't choose to pay this much for such a short version. Very disapointed.
An amazing read for both men and women. For women, this book finally makes sense of why our lives are the way they are. For men, it allows men a greater understanding of the innate beauty present in every woman. This is a book that every young person should read or have read to them. It explaines why every person is a unique individual and should be honoured as such.
"A book for the wild woman in all of us..."
Clarissa Pinkola Estes is a beautiful story teller. Every message she shares is done so with eloquence using tales of old brought magnificently into the here and now. I cannot recommend this enough.
"An amazing storyteller!"
Clarissa had me entranced! Love the interweaving of story, song and ancient wisdom. Can't wait to hear more of her work.
the concepts in this book are essential to a woman's happiness and to her understanding of how to attain this happiness.
"A gift to yourself"
loved it and narrator's hypnotic voice. I Recommend highly for women of every age and creed.
Absolutely brilliant! Read with such beauty too. Too short as others have said. The book itself is much longer. All that said I have loved listening to this and will do again and again
"Not too sure."
I agree with individual freedom, but to paint marriage as a beautiful cage of rotting death.
One story describes man as a being who collects the bones of women he has married and killed ultimately.
I prefer unity and not separation.
Being wild and free is good, but motherhood and parenting means a natural progression of life, dishes are also a form of creativity, you are creating for your loved ones and home... If you want to twiddle reeds in the garden and be wild when creativity is needed for everyone around you... Then your just a adult child, not a wild female.
"Too short :/"
Unfortunately this is too short. I bought this as I have the book but haven't got round to finishing yet. This is a great book but it's such a shame so much has been cut out, it is more like a talk rather than a book and I would recommend the written book along side this.
Too short could have listened to her for days more. A must especially for teenage girls but wonderful also for women of all ages trying to find their true selves.
