Story
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

Story
People who have read my books, particularly “The War of Art” and its cousins, have a vague idea of the odyssey of a particular solitary guy, wracked with guilt and riven by self-doubt, as he struggles toward his destiny as a writer. But they have only the scantiest conception of the particulars of that journey. These particulars I’m hoping may be of use to others as they wrestle with their own version of that same odyssey. So let me try to strip it down. Let me tell the parts I normally leave out.

However, being a 10X entrepreneur is nothing like what most people think.

If you've listened to his books The War of Art and Turning Pro, you know that for 30 years Steven Pressfield (Gates of Fire, The Afghan Campaign etc.) wrote spec novel after spec novel before any publisher took him seriously. How did he finally break through? Ignoring just about every rule of commercial book publishing, Pressfield's "first" novel not only became a major best seller (over 250,000 copies sold), it was adapted into a feature film directed by Robert Redford and starring Matt Damon, Will Smith, and Charlize Theron.

Most of us still live by the motto, “No pain, no gain.” But this approach to life is actually a prescription for fear, frustration, and self-doubt. Much of what we learn about success is based on the pain/gain idea: in essence, work harder, be more persistent, and develop greater willpower. The New Psycho-Cybernetics formula is anything but painful. It will allow you to achieve all your goals, faster, easier, and with less strain than you ever thought possible.

We all need reminding
I have returned to this book again and been delightfully reminded that the effort to make change is huge but worth it. No one that attempts anything worthwhile achieved it without the constant battle between that which you want to bring to the world and the internal resistance to stay small.

Highly recommended
Stephen’s book spoke to my heart. It was a book that was recommended to me as I begin a journey of interweaving business and advocacy visions into one. As he started the book and spoke about resistance, I knew this book was for me. After listening, my first action will be to articulate the outcome of my services to my clients - what is it that they will walk away with from having worked with me. I haven’t done that yet. I did it for what I wanted as an outcome. I hadn’t seen their journey fully. I don’t even need to get it completely right, but something articulated is a beginning. That will help me set course and keep the momentum, The work I’m going to be delivering is meaningful and life changing, it’s about being vulnerable, compassionate, in work and life, and also advocacy and breaking the silence. Fear and resistance I understand! Thank you Stephen, you poured a lot of wisdom into a very short read! It was really easy to listen to. I’m going to listen to it a second time.
