Publisher's Summary

Run to the Roar!

When the image of a man-eating beast travels through the optic nerve and into the visual cortex, the brain sends the body a simple but urgent message: Run away! That's what normal people do, but not lion chasers. Rather than seeing a 500-pound problem, they see an opportunity for God to show up and show his power.

Chase the Lion is more than a catchphrase; it's a radically different approach to life. It's only when we stop fearing failure that we can fully seize opportunity by the mane. With grit and gusto, New York Times best-selling author Mark Batterson delivers a bold message to everyone with a big dream.

Quit playing it safe and start running toward the roar!

This is a wake-up call to stop living as if the purpose was to simply arrive safely at death. Our dreams should scare us. They should be so big that without God, they are impossible to achieve. Quit running away from what you're afraid of.

Chase the lion!

Change the world!

What is your 500-pound dream?

In this highly anticipated sequel to his best-selling In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Mark Batterson invites lion chasers everywhere to chase dreams so impossible that victory demands we face our fears, defy the odds, and hold tight to God.

These are the kind of dreams that will make you a bigger person and the world a better place.

Based upon 2 Samuel 23, Chase the Lion tells the true story of an ancient warrior named Benaiah who chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day - and then killed it. For most people that situation wouldn't just be a problem...it would be the last problem they ever faced. For Benaiah it was an opportunity to step into his destiny. After defeating the lion, he landed his dream job as King David's bodyguard and eventually became commander in chief of Israel's army under King Solomon.

Written in a way that both challenges and encourages, this revolutionary book will help unleash the faith and courage you need to identify, chase, and catch the 500-pound dreams in your life.

What the Critics Say

"Chase the Lion is a powerful, passionate, and inspiring message! When you pursue God’s dream for your life, it can be a little scary, but man is it worth it!" (Tim Tebow)

"Creative. Inspiring. Challenging. Batterson’s writings always leave us encouraged, and Chase the Lion is no exception. If you feel as if life has caused you to shrink the size of your dreams, this book is for you!" (Louie Giglio, pastor of Passion City Church, founder of Passion Conferences, and author of The Comeback)

"Mark’s books have inspired me and helped me to inspire our team. Straight from God’s Word, Chase the Lion is a great message for any team and for people in every walk of life." (John Harbaugh, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens)

    "Great audio book"

Enjoyed listening to this book, has several spiritual references, however it helped put everything into light that is referenced. It is very easy to get into as the narrator voice is easy to listen to.

I finished the audio book in only two sittings, and will most certainly be listening to it again as I know that I will get something new from the next listen.

This is the first time listening to this author and will most likely get one of his other books and compare the information given.

"Not what I expected from a book on chasing dreams"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I'm not sure who would. I'm a Christian, so I appreciated the sentiment of the book, but it was little more than an oral collage of other's stories. I'd hoped the book was a guide that would help one find their dreams--on God's terms--and then chase them. That Batterson used the phrase, "chased a lion into a pit, on a snowy day" about 40 times was annoying. I felt like he was plugging his old books by doing it. The book needs editing badly, such as when he said he stood "at the foot of his father-in-law's casket on the day he died." Not embalmed? No one caught that? There were some other implausible pieces I can't recall directly. I simply couldn't relate to the book; it was all about others' stories and triumphs.

Would you ever listen to anything by Mark Batterson again?

No. Mr. Batterson should not read his own books. He's not a narrator. Let a professional have the job.

What didn’t you like about Mark Batterson’s performance?

Great narrators are trained. Batterson's meter is slow and plodding.

    Any additional comments?

I hate to sound so critical, especially when Batterson is doing incredible work for the kingdom of Christ. That's tremendous in every way. I just don't prefer his storytelling.

"Great reminder, but with frequent annoyances."

Chase the Lion works great as reminder of the common motivational messages out there. A large part of the beginning is boring, and full of clichés. However, as Mark Batterson delves further in, somewhere in the middle I found myself bookmarking once or twice each chapter. These are not necessarily eye-opening info; but were shed new light under this topic... For e.g. the idea that you have to be diligent under someone else's dream if you're to succeed in your own.

A large chunk of my negative experience probably has to do with Mark's personality vs. my pet peeves... So very subjective:
Mark seems to enjoy puns and clichés. He also frequently assumes too much about the personality and experiences of Bible characters. Finally he tops it all off with upward inflections on pauses in his speech. Quite annoying.

But I like the book enough to sincerely thank my sister for sharing it, and I would share it too.

    "Life Reveling!"

This book (along with the leadership group I am working through the book with) have been like a mirror showing me who I am, and a compass that is pointing me to where I am going. I have evaluated my life choices, and have set goals that are impossible without divine intervention. Something I'm not sure I would have had the courage to do at this point in my life without the encouragement of the leadership group and this book. I recommend Chase the Lion to everyone who knows that there is so much more to life than the status quo.

"Inspiring God Size Goals Pendulum Pushed!!!"

This book is an awesome read! It evokes a great deal of introspection about what dreams you've shelved. It's a catalyst to the way you take inventory of the dreams you floated as a balloons. I'm grateful the author was obedient in penning this charge to every ambassador of Christ! I recommend this book to every person who has stopped dreaming. This read inspires you to dream again & not only dream but to dream BIG. Revisit those dreams. Dream again...dream hard or go home!
