Story
Before you can influence decisions, you need to understand what drives them. In The Choice Factory, Richard Shotton sets out to help you learn. By observing a typical day of decision-making, from trivial food choices to significant work-place moves, he investigates how our behavior is shaped by psychological shortcuts. With a clear focus on the marketing potential of knowing what makes us tick, Shotton has drawn on evidence from academia, real-life ad campaigns, and his own original research.

Jenni Romaniuk's latest book is about brand health tracking, one of the biggest (and most costly) sources of insights about brand performance and inputs into brand strategy that marketers engage in. But yet most trackers were designed pre-How Brands Grow, and so suffer from being not fit for purpose to provide insights to managers looking to grow their brands.

Story
This is the complete and unabridged Scientific Advertising, written by the advertising genius Claude C. Hopkins in 1923. It is cited by many advertising and Internet marketing personalities such as David Ogilvy, Gary Halbert, and Jay Abraham as a "must-read" book. Hopkins used the techniques of testing and measuring the effectiveness of his ads by understanding and using the principles of psychology. After listening to this audiobook you'll never waste money on ineffective advertising again.
Publisher's Summary
Rory Sutherland explores the stories and psychology behind the most influential marketing campaigns in history, and smashes apart received wisdom with a look at iconoclastic ideas.
Advertising guru Rory Sutherland is a world-leading proponent of behavioural economics. In Hacking the Unconscious, he looks at how this emerging science is used by marketers to influence us and challenges us to reassess which ideas we hold dear.
In part one, Marketing, Rory asks why certain ad campaigns, such as Nike's 'Just Do It' and the MND Ice Bucket Challenge, cast such a spell over us. Looking at 10 all-time great campaigns - including Coke's iconic 'Hilltop' ad, Dove's 'Campaign for Real Beauty' and De Beers' 'A Diamond Is Forever' - he discusses their success with the creative minds that conceived them.
Along the way, he ponders the allure of altruism, asks whether ads can be art, considers what 'Big Data' means for the future of marketing and shows how a powerful health campaign transformed attitudes, and saved lives.
Part two, Thought Cages, sees Rory confounding conventional wisdom with his intriguing, subversive and controversial concepts. Is education always a good thing? Would we be better off selecting our MPs by lottery? Plus, he looks at the dilemma the NHS faces - to be successful, or to be loved; speculates if we're really as rational as we think; exposes the fallacy of market research; shows how businesses play on our susceptibility to commitment; and wonders whether online retail will ever replicate the magic of the traditional shopping experience.
As he explores how 'psycho-logic', behavioural quirks and mind hacks could drive change, he formulates a magical series of radical ideas that may provide new solutions to society's problems.
Contributors include novelist Fay Weldon; onetime CEO of Cambridge Analytica, Alexander Nix; New York Times best-selling author Bryan Caplan; MP Jess Philips and Nassim Nicholas Taleb, statistician and author of The Black Swan.

Disappointed with this, as it is not a book
I love Rory Sutherland, have bought his books, listen to his podcast etc. But disappointed with the BBC & Audible for this product. It is a series of radio programmes, already freely available through the BBC Sounds app, packaged into an Audible product - badly
Selling this for $27 when it’s already free on the BBC website and apps is bad enough, but to do it so badly that in Chapter 7 you actually spend 3 minutes listening to the end of the previous radio program, and the BBC News, before the chapter starts is embarrassing- it’s like a BBC Soung Engineer hit the Record button too early. Despite my love of Rory, I feel that I’ve been conned and will make we avoid any BBC product on here, as I don’t know whether I’m actually going to receive an audio book, or some randomly packaged audio materials that BBC and Audible think they can make a dollar from.
