Val was bitten by a zombie and now she's scheduled for lethal injection. Breaking all the rules, 18-year-old Dean Walters snags an experimental serum. But it can't be tested until Val turns into a zombie: something authorities won't allow. Her execution is scheduled to happen before transformation is complete, giving Dean only hours to break her out. When their helicopter crashes straight into the heart of Zombie Land, his rescue mission becomes a fight for survival - and giving up on Val is not an option.

"Couldn't get past third chapter."
Next Iron Druid book until a new Zombie book comes out by someone I know.! I'm about to give up on new Authors selling Zombie Novels'
The narration was bad! It wouldn't be fair to Blame it fully on the narrator cause its hard to tell if its the story or the narration which really kills it! But its my belief that a Great Narrator can salvage a bad story with his Voices, & the personality he gives the characters just as a great story can make a bad narrator seem better then he is but when you put two negatives together its like a fart in church!
Didn't get far enough to say honestly!
Don't waste your credit or money!!
"Painful to read"
I have no idea.
not in this Genre, just this writer.
This book was painful to listen to! The story line was ok but the character were ridicules. It was like The cast of Happy Days fighting Zombies. I think this Writer would do well with other Genres, like Children and family.
"a zombie book for tweens"
I love zombie/monster/horror/supernatural stories. I did not like this.
From the first paragraph I kept hoping it would get better.
it was good, not amazing but good but I am happy to report there is no swearing or sex.
"A Great Zombie Story!"
I finished listening to Val, a prequel to The Zombie Chronicles. Author Chrissy Peebles blew my mind. This is a fantastic start to a series. Unfortunately I will most likely have to wait awhile before I will be able to listen to the third audio. I'm still anxious to learn what will happen to Val. This is a great zombie story and its not like the majority zombie stories I've listened to so I'm thankful for that. I am definitely going to go through withdrawals over this series once I finish the second audio. This story has it all and I guarantee you'll love these stories.
Mikael Naramore did a perfect job with his telling of this story. I can't believe how real he made this story feel and sound. He did a great job with distinguishing accents and voices to each character. He brought this story to life in the way that it made me feel as if I was there watching the story play out. I give it a perfect 5 star rating!
"The Zombies are Coming!"
Yes. I liked it enough that I'll probably listen with my son. He loves zombies!
It was similar to Benton, but with no sex. They are both zombie apocalypse series, where humanity still has safe places to go.
He has a great voice, awesome inflections, and easily keeps the character voices correct.
A dramatic, post-apocalyptic, tale of family and friends, struggling to survive.
This book was graphic on a bloody scale, but not a sexual one. Some kids will be able to read it without nightmares... Some adults, too... Unfortunately, I fell asleep listening to this, and had some crazy scary dreams:-)
"Why oh why did I not listen to the other reviews?!"
This book managed to be every bit as bad as the negative reviews said. It wasn't meant to be a comedy but I found myself snorting in laughter at the lameness of the dialogue.
I really wanted to like it but it just wasn't going to happen. I made it to the end of the book, but there was no way I would have bought book two... or listened to it for free.
"Good story bad narration"
The narrator is way over excited in the entire book. You'd think the book is written in all CAPS throughout.
"Disappointing, I should have believed the reviews"
This book managed to be every bit as bad as the negative reviews said. I cant believe the author was able to publish this book. I made it to the end of the book, but there was no way I would have bought book two... or even listened to it for free.
Get an editor. Have someone that will tell her the truth when reading the book. I would be embarrassed and angry those I trusted to read and give their opinion didn't tell me the truth that this book needed work. I hate to be so harsh but I expect better quality from Audible.
The voices for the different characters were irritating. A good performance can make a bad book so much better, this was not the case. I am not sure that anyone could have made me enjoy this book.
The characters were OK, it was the overall book. The premise was nothing new but had potential to be an average entertaining listen unfortunately it didn't work out.
I hope I got this for free and didn't actually pay for it.
definitely geared for younger female readers. too much about the hair. come on. they are filthy. no regular bathing. dirty hair doesn't flow or blow or be soft. it's gross.
A different aproach and a good start. Im heading streight for book 2. A good adition to any zombie library.
I don't like to not finish a book but this one came close. The overall story wasn't bad, some novel ideas.
The portrayal of the females was irritating, and the narrators voice grated when he was representing them.
I thought parts of the plot were weak and stereotypes abounded.
Hmmm...not sure, there are many other good zombie books.
