Publisher's Summary

Ayla and Jondalar leave the safety of the lands of the Mammoth Hunters and embark on a seemingly impossible journey across an entire continent. Their goal is the Cro-Magnon settlement in what is now southern France where Jondalar lived as a young man. Accompanied by the half-tame Wolf, the superb stallion, Racer, and the mare, Whinney, they brave both savage enemies and the elemental dangers of weather and terrain in their search for the place that will become Home.

Jean Auel's imaginative reconstruction of pre-historic life, rich in detail of language, culture, myth and ritual, has become a set text in schools and colleges around the world.

"Adventure filled continuation of Ayla and Jondalar"

Another great narration by Rowena Cooper. Ayla and Jondalar set off on their journey back to Jondalar's home. The journey is chock-full of interesting encounters and challenges for the couple. Much better than book 3!

    "Too much repeat."

Got tired of the repeat of what happened before in the previous books! Probably would have cut several hours off of listening if it hadn't been repeated. Same with the sex episodes. Same o, same o. Got bored and fast forwarded.

"Great story in a great series"

I wasn't exactly enamoured with the narration. It sounded a bit like I was being read to at school.
But I did enjoy the story and have learned a lot about the Stone Age.
Looking forward to the next in the series now.

    "Not her best story."

Bit too much description, some chunks of the story could have been missed out and it would have improved the overall book. Still, about to start book 5. keep going, with this book. it's worth it.

Much better storylines than 'Mammoth Hunters'. Loved the glacier section. Would make a good film. Who could take the parts I wonder...

    "Time to stop"
What would have made The Plains of Passage better?

Cutting it shorter would have helped. The endless repetition of descriptions, and the history of the cave lion, and how Ayla was brought up.
And the distinct la k of story.

What was most disappointing about Jean M. Auel’s story?

There isn't a story. It's all become a bit formulaic, and I often felt I was being lectured on the flora and fauna of the time.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Rowena Cooper?

She did the best she could with a poor book.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    None
