Maya and Rebecca Ward are both accomplished physicians, but that's where the sisters' similarities end. As teenagers, they witnessed their parents' murder, but it was Rebecca who saved Maya from becoming another of the gunman's victims. The tragedy left Maya cautious and timid, settling for a sedate medical practice with her husband, Adam, while Rebecca became the risk taker.
After a devastating hurricane hits the coast of North Carolina, Rebecca and Adam urge Maya to join them in the relief effort. To please her husband, Maya finally agrees. She loses herself in the care and transport of victims, but when her helicopter crashes into raging floodwaters, there appears to be no survivors.
Forced to accept that Maya is gone, Rebecca and Adam turn to one another - first for comfort, then in passion - unaware that, miles from civilization, Maya is injured and trapped with strangers she's not certain she can trust.

"Very good, if not great."
Dianc Chamberlain always gives pleasure as well as food for thought. This was a very good book, but not her best by a long shot. Another reviewer found the ending lacking, but I thought it was perfect. Just sit back and enjoy.
"Sibling rivalry, love, lust, loss, & heartache"
Absolutely! This was a great story line with a little something of every emotion for everyone.
This had a little feel of Nicholas Spark's stories, in my opinion, except that the love story was more of a secondary focus while the friendship & survival events held the forefront.
I loved her entire performance. I can't think of anyone else who could have done a better job!
Diane Chamberlain is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This book contained a little sample of every feeling imaginable from love, loss, lust, heartbreak, starting anew, sibling rivalry to murder. The one idea that stuck with me is the thought that we should make our lives in the sand instead of concrete so that anytime we decide to change them, it is easily possible. This book was absolutely enamoring from the storyline to the writing technique. The plot kept me hooked from the very first page and while reading you will be fervently gritting your teeth to see how everything plays out
"Good but not my favorite by chamberlain"
Definitely another good chamberlain book but not her best. I absolutely didn't like the ending. It probably could have ended any other way but the way it had and I would have felt better. Like the sisters in this novel, I am the youngest of just two girls. Our parents had no other children so we were close growing up. There is absolutely no way this ending would be okay with anyone in my family and I'm sorry but if a reader out there says otherwise I would have to question the family dynamic going on there. That just simply is not okay I don't care what circumstances surround them.
"Gave up halfway through!"
Love this author's other books but couldn't even get through this one! Gave up halfway through. I was waiting for something to happen but it never did!
This was an enjoyable read. It took a while to connect with the characters, but once I did I was hooked.
"Bit predictable ..."
The narration was excellent but I found the story a little tired. Sometimes my interest level is directly related to my expectations ; I think in this case, I just needed more.
"Very Slow Pace"
Most of the book consists of the two sisters moaning about not revealing their guilty secrets to each other. The story is quite predictable until at least 90% or so, to the point where the reader gets anxious just to get it over with. There are a couple twists and surprises at the end, but they are essentially revealed as an aside, like 'oh, now that has happened so things are different '. The basic story concept had a lot of potential, but in my opinion, the author did not make the best use of it to keep the reader engaged.
absolutely disgusting how it's OK to just get a divorce and marry your sis in law because you don't agree on a few things!!! made me want to puke to think this is the way some people the think!!! made me sad....
