Last year, Night Shade Books unleashed The Book of Cthulhu onto an unsuspecting world. Critically acclaimed as the ultimate Cthulhu anthology” and a must read’ for fans of Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos,” The Book of Cthulhu went where no collection of mythos tales had gone before: to the very edge of madness and beyond.
For nearly a century, H. P. Lovecraft’s tales of malevolent Great Old Ones existing beyond the dimensions of this world, beyond the borders of sanity, have captured and held the imaginations of writers and aficionados of the dark, the macabre, the fantastic, and the horrible. Now, because you demanded more, anthologist Ross E. Lockhart has risked all to dive back into the Cthulhu canon, combing through mind-shattering manuscripts and moldering tomes to bring you The Book of Cthulhu 2, with even more tales of tentacles, terror, and madness.
Featuring monstrous stories by many of weird fiction’s brightest lights, The Book of Cthulhu 2 brings you even more tales inspired by H. P. Lovecraft’s greatest creation: The Cthulhu mythos. This year, the stars are rightI! I! Cthulhu Fhtagn!

Not bad but not great! Most of these stories had good background, but lacked in horror.
"Awesome, very few less than great stories."
One or two missteps, more than made up for by many great stories and readings.
A great collection of stories, each true to the genre. Lovecraftian themes present in all; subtly in some, front and center in others. Very satisfying.
"A new level of mythos writing."
Very interesting collection of stories. well performed with only a few flubs. the various authors of this collection should be applauded. I was wholly impressed. I wish there was more.
"Annoying narrators, decent stories"
No, some of the narration is just horrible. Especially the female voice.
Theres quite a few stories some good some bad, quite a few gems but the Neil Gaiman one definitely isn't it.
Cthulu, because he's a giant serving of octo-squid sushi.
"Great Stories, Especially Toward End. Adult Only."
I loved reading H.P. Lovecraft's books as a child and wanted to introduce my son to his body of work.
This was definitely not the book for that! First story was filled with SO much profanity that I wondered if the writer had any grasp of the English language. This quote describes it best "profanity is the last refuge of the ignorant."
The story was engaging and pulled me in so I found profanity quite superfluous., disturbing, and distracting. As the stories progressed there was less profanity and more atmospheric allusions and imagery that truly harkened back to Lovecraft. These middles stories were the best to me. Re last story had profanity, but it worked nicely with the Mike Hammer like protagonist. The narrator for this story was excellent. Began on low note, but ended on high one.
Narration good throughout. Would have given stories 5 stars because some of them were spectacularly written, but the brilliance of these were marred by the others that were replete with profanity.
Overall a good listen, but definitely for Adults Only!
"An Enjoyably Rich Collection"
Very highly indeed. I really enjoy books that take a variety of perspectives on a certain subject, or in this case mythos, and does strange and interesting things with it.
Possibly World War Z for the variety of perspectives on a central subject. The idea of humanity reacting, or indeed ignoring, a terrible event is prevalent in both books as well as seeing people's very human reactions to events.
Both did a fantastic job in adapting their performances to the very different stories. Quite often it is easy to forget there are only two performers.
Very much so. With each story taking a different perspective and being so well written you can't help but empathise with the characters. For some stories the author and you are laughing at what the poor characters are going through, others the world created makes you feel extremely uncomfortable... extremely.
With a wide range of authors contributing to this collection there are some fantastic stories to amuse, bemuse and confuse. Each story takes the tried and tested mythos and does some very interesting things with it. I highly recommend this book just for the fantastic variety of stories and how well they are performed.
"Warning - dodgy attempts at British accent."
Get British actors to do the British voices.
Neither of them should ever be allowed to attempt a British accent again - . Over emphasised consonants and long drawn out vowels - quite often the wrong ones, all over the place
I did enjoy the book, but it does ruin the mood when you keep laughing at the weird pronunciation on the stories that were done in a cod-British accent
"why part 2 first?"
liked the verity of story stiles think my favorite was the attack on innsmath but liked most of em
not caught any of there other works but they both read the stories well as the other reviewer said you forget there is only 2 of em
very good book well read and a good long listen that is always good I'd advise it for any lovecraft fan the stories are varied and take the mythos in some interesting directions
"R E Lockhart edits another amazing anthology "
As with the book of cthulhu 1, this second anthology of lovecraftian tales edited by Ross e Lockhart gets my five stars. I only wish his third volume Cthulhu fhtagn was available as an audiobook. having read the print versions of all three I can honestly say that listening to the audio version really added to my enjoyment of each story. The selection of stories is good and the readers are wonderful . I'd go as far as saying the interpretation by the narrators is perfect they show a real understanding of the tales and I have listened to each many times. These collections are a worthy addition to the canon .
Please can we have more audiobook versions of other cthulhu mythos anthologys as there are very few. use this as a model on how to do it right.
as I've said my only complaint is that I need more of the same. ☺
