Publisher's Summary

In a stand-alone series set in the world of Muirwood, eighteen-year-old Maia is the exiled princess of Comoros and heir to the throne. As a result of her father's ceaseless need for authority, she was left disinherited and forced to live as a servant in her enemy's home. When the king invites chaos into the land by expelling the magical order known as the Dochte Mandar, Maia finds herself on a perilous quest to save her people. To survive, she must use magic she has learned in secret - despite the fact that women are forbidden to control it. Hunted by enemies at every turn, Maia realizes that danger lurks within her, too. Her powers threaten to steal not only her consciousness but also her sense of right and wrong. Can she set herself free and save the realm she loves - even if that realm has forgotten her?

    "I love the Muirwood series"
    Any additional comments?

I am so very grateful Jeff Wheeler continued this world. I loved the first series, and when it ended, I felt like Lia's story was unfinished, now that I am finally getting closure on her life and learning about her Great, Great Grand-Daughter Mya I couldn't be happier. Thank you so much, it will be interesting to see what Mya's life will turn into now and how she will deal with her struggles to come. Thank you!!!

"Excellent - read Legends of Muirwood first."

I was blessed in reading Legends of Muirwood series earlier this year and found it stuck with me long after completing it. I was greatful to discover this first book in September of 2015 and furthermore delighted that all three books would release by the end of October 2015. Frankly, I wish more writers and publishers would take this approach.
As I said in the title of this review, I think it is truly necessary to read the first series set in this world called the Legends of Muirwood. It greatly enhances this new series and this first book. Why? Because you as the reader will know how and why Princess Mya is being taught wrong doctrine. This first book may be difficult for the more sensitive souls out there because of the amount of suffering that Mya endures. My heart ached for the choices that she made both on her journey and how lonely she was as a child. But if you hang in there through this first book despite all the terrible things that happen to Mya, she does find peace later in the series.
This is a fast paced book and although I did not always appreciate the back and forth between her young life and the present journey, it is necessary for character development and the plot.
Also, this book and every other book of Jeff Wheeler's is clean of foul language and inappropriate PDA moments. I find that personally as a Christian there is a great deal of allegory in the story and important lessons. Specifically, when we fail to know the difference between right and wrong actions within the framework of our beliefs how quickly we can be deceived. There are principles to be gained from this book if you choose to see beyond the surface. thank you to Jeff Wheeler for an excellent reading experience and I cannot wait for the last book.

    "Muirwood is too painful."

I tried and tried to get through this book. Kate Rudd did nothing to help this vapid set of characters.

I was unable to make it through one book much less the sequels.

"Parts of story are great, others slow & boring"
Would you try another book from Jeff Wheeler and/or Kate Rudd?

    Maybe

Who was your favorite character and why?

I never really attached to the main character - I found myself liking the background characters more.

How could the performance have been better?

Readers voice was very low when voicing woman's lines. It made them sound, well, not like woman. Nearly everything the main character said was strained and shaky, it just didn't seem very real.

Was The Banished of Muirwood worth the listening time?

It was nice to have in while doing dishes and laundry.

The characters are rich and the heroine is unique. I hope that Jeff Wheeler always sleeps with a pen and paper by his bed. This is one dream that took on a life of its own after he wrote it down.

    "Wonderful Epic Fantasy"

The Banished of Muirwood was an exciting, engaging novel - one (as an Audible listener) I wanted to keep hearing more & more of. The fantasy world that Jeff Wheeler creates is unique and intriguing; there is magic thrown in without it being cliche, as is sometimes the case with so many fantasy works out there today. The work contains a perfect mix of action, drama, and suspense. The characters are well developed & interesting, especially the main character (Maia), & her protectors that help her along her journey to save her people. This book is also a breath of fresh air in that it does not contain profanity or other content inappropriate for younger readers. I cannot wait to start on the next in the series! Great writing & narration .. Highly recommend!!

"Had the potential but didn't do it."

The Main character's thoughts ruined the book. She was purposefully written as unrealistic drama, she is Annoying. When things happen to her she doesn't say anything, just thinks. Example, touching her left shoulder brings out her demon. When her husband touched her shoulder instead of just opening her mouth and saying "don't touch me there, you are hurting me " she just prays in her mind that he will let go. there are soo many instances where even a small child would speak. But no, you have to listen for a full 10 minutes about her thoughts. it was so bad in some places that I skipped several 30 second fast forwards and after 6 or 7 fast forward she was STILL just going on and on!
The narrator also sounds silly when doing some of the men's voices. She tried a bit too hard and there was less of a portrayal of the characters emotions (except for the whining, she whined really good ). It felt like she was reading to a child who needs over acting to understand what is being said.

Overall unless you want an entire book of whining every 10 minutes for 30 minutes just so that the character can "overcome through willpower" , skip this. If I hadn't spent the money on this I would have never read more than half. And the whining gets WORSE the more you read. Not better

    "Requires two readings"

Excellent performance, but the story is hard to follow and has no clues hinting at the ending. I wish there had been more background offered, laying out the religions and kingdoms and history--I imagine I would've gotten that if I had read other works by the author, but this is meant to be a standalone story. I also had no idea what the heroine was doing--why she was traveling, where she was going and what she was trying to accomplish. Her original motivation was explained in the final flashback, in the last couple hours of the audio, but by that point the plot had moved on and shifted so often throughout the book I still didn't quite get where we were. I was left feeling puzzled, and know a lot of this would be resolved by reading through the book a second time, but I'm not drawn in enough to give it the time.

"Great story which will keep you listening"

I really enjoyed this book. I struggled initially with the narrator's tone which I felt sounded quite robotic but once I got used to it it was fine. The story is very engaging and I frequently found myself at home after a car journey sitting outside to listen for just a little longer before switching off.
