Ten thousand worlds. Ten thousand enemies. One love.
Marguerite Caine has done the impossible, traveling to alternate dimensions with the Firebird - the brilliant invention of her parents; her boyfriend, Paul; and their friend, Theo. But she has also caught the attention of enemies willing to kidnap, blackmail, and even kill to use the Firebird for themselves.
When Paul's soul is splintered into four pieces - pieces that are trapped within Pauls in other dimensions - Marguerite will do anything and travel anywhere to save him. But the price of his safe return is steep. If she doesn't sabotage her parents in multiple universes, Paul will be lost forever.
Unwilling to sacrifice her family, Marguerite enlists the brilliant Theo to help. The two forge a plan to save Paul and the Firebird, but succeeding means outsmarting a genius and risking not only their lives but also the lives of their counterparts in every other dimension.
Their mission takes them to the most dangerous universes yet: a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Each leap brings Marguerite closer to saving Paul - but her journey reveals dark truths that lead her to doubt the one constant she's found between the worlds: their love for each other.

"A BLOODY ROLLERCOASTER RIDE!"
I'm having too many feels & heartbreak right now omg thank goodness I have the 3rd book with me so I can start it ASAP but I need a moment to precede everything.. I'M LEGIT DEAD NOW
"Love this series and love Tavia Gilbert"
Love this series, hope there's more! I love Tavia Gilbert's narration! Not a dull moment
"Second book not as good"
This book was predictable up until the last few chapters then came a brief bright light as the it sank as the too predictable ending came. Only to dangle the next book in front of us that I will not read or listen.
Thankfully this author keeps us from gratuitous sex, language, and violence.
The narration is very dramatic although I liked her voice. I am buying the books for my 13 year old niece. I think she might enjoy.
"Decent story, terrible narrator"
I thoroughly enjoy Claudia Gray's style, ever since I started with the Evernight series. This installment of the Firebird trilogy feels like a penultimate novel, much the same way Brent Week's Blood Mirror and Sanderson's Well of Ascension do. Stakes are raised/antes are upped but it doesn't seem like anything earth shattering will happen.
Which is why I'm returning it half-listened to finish it on kindle where I can read in the voice in my head and no longer be punished by the tinny timber and breathy, shaky, whiny quality of this narrator when she tries to infuse intensity into a scene. Marguerite goes through a lot of scary stuff which might be forgiven, but this ridiculous tone carries over to her reading of the prose (perhaps because of the first-person POV of Marguerite) as well as her dramatization of Theo and Paul.
I have no words. It has been a fantastic journey from the first chapter to the very clifanger end. And the performance was great too.
"So worth it"
loved it from begining to end. I was sooooo shocked with that ending... i cant wait for the next and final book#
"Good listen, great book"
Claudia Gray as usual leaves you with a cliffhanger. love the story and hope they will develop some more.
"LOVE THIS BOOK!!!"
One of my new favorites! It's exciting, compelling, and so well read! The person reading does great accents and keeps up with the emotions characters as if she were them!
"Fun story but wish there was a male narrator for the men!"
I like the story a lot but really don't like the narrator's voice for the male characters. It feels very forced and takes me out of the story. Get a male narrator!!!!!!
"A good listen"
good narrator, I found her believable. the story just didn't grab me as much as it did with the previous book. There was a lot of jumping around at the beginning establishing the story and filling you in. but I found it a bit distracting.
towards the end I began to get into it a bit more as she got to the twist and established the next book I think the third book will be a lot more interesting. but I did enjoy it overall ^^
