Former SEAL sniper Cody Roberts has returned from Afghanistan with too many demons and a simple wish: to be left alone. Working for K2 Special Services, caring for the war dogs he rescued, playing his guitar - that's all he wants to do. But Cody is as protective as his nickname, "Dog", suggests. A man like that can't sit back when he realizes the beautiful veterinarian next door is being targeted by an unknown enemy.
Riley Austin is desperate to find out who's poisoning her animal patients, and she's stunned by her mysterious neighbor's suggestion that it's personal. But Cody makes her feel something else, too: a powerful attraction. He insists he's no good for her, but those haunted eyes and that chiseled body tell Riley that surrendering to their mutual lust is worth the risk. And despite his conditions - no falling for each other, no regrets once it's over - she'll fight to love him just as fiercely as he'll fight to save her.

A wonderful story with all the elements that make it so enthralling - suspense, great characters, humor, many poignant moments that bring on tears. One of my favorite books in quite a while!
Really enjoyed this series. Loveable characters, interesting stories, well written. Each book had intriguing story and unique characters.
"Fun And Loving"
This is a story you will love for its fun loving nature but also forgiven yourself and forgiving others.
"Sad To See An End To Series"
I love military romance stories and I'm going to miss this set of wounded warriors. It's a predictable but sweet story of Cody Roberts former SEAL comes back damaged mentally from Afghanistan and Riley Austin has been damaged by a life being shuffled from one foster home to the next.
These two damaged soul must pull down their walls of protection if they want a chance at happiness. Well written and narrated you can't go wrong purchasing any book in this amazing series.
The problem was not the book. It was me. I expected adult, mature, listening material with an adult female voice and character. I got a mediocre story with a main character voice voice made me cringe. I have been doing audio listening since they were on cassettes. This one book makes me wonder if I should just give up and listen to my older romance novels.
"The best for last..."
I absolutely loved this K2 series. I'm so sad it came to an end, but this was definitely the best\!
"4 stars for McFadden and 2 stars for York.."
This was soooo much better than books 3 and 4. Every bit as good as 1 and 2 were. I absolutely loved Cody and Riley, and I’m glad they didn’t call him “Dog” too much in the story. That’s not a good nickname for a man.
A great story intertwining Cody’s memory loss with whoever was after Riley. And I liked their secrets and that they didn’t carry them around for the whole book. AND it was so great that the others were there, too: Logan and Dani, Jake and Maria, Saint and Sugar, and Ryan and Charlene. This has been a good series overall and I’ll miss them all.
(((One thing I’d like to say about Ms. Owens is that she has beautiful women and drop-dead gorgeous men. Unlike a lot of readers I read to get out of the real world so I don’t want to read about someone too thin, too fat, too unattractive, red hair that looks like a Brillo pad, whatever. And we’re supposed to believe a god-like guy is going to fall for them? I like fantasy but not that kind of fantasy. That’s MHO. And, yeah, I know I’m shallow because I was beautiful characters in my books.)))
I did like Sally and Pretty Girl, Cody’s dogs, and his simple verbal commands, as well as his hand signals, and how well they obeyed. AND I couldn’t wait to see what happened with Layla. His love for all three of his dogs was just amazing. LOL, since I’m not a cat person I can only say that Riley’s affection for her three cats was touching.
There is explicit sex in this book as well as swearing and the F-bomb is released 18 times.
Honestly, I wish Sandra Owens wouldn’t stop writing this series. I loved those 5 heroes!
As to the narration: Again, Amy McFadden should have done the entire book. As nice as Sebastian York’s reading voice is he didn’t do women’s voices worth a damn. A woman’s manly voice is just not a good listen.
Loved it! I am so sad the series ended. I am going to reread the whole series again.
"Great way to end the series"
Probably my most favorite book in the series, they were all great but Sandra made sure to go out with a bang. Loved it!
