Even when she won't fight for us, I'll go to war for her....
Inside the Octagon, I have no fear. I'm at home, in my element, inflicting pain onto men trained to hurt me just as badly. Making them submit, knocking them out, maiming them, because it's them or me. And I choose them.
Outside the Octagon, my only weakness is a five-foot-two, classy as f--k woman that I've loved for most of my life. She's the one that brings me to my knees, fills my arms, my heart, and one day soon, my bed. She makes me reckless. Volatile. I drink too much and try too hard to f--k my way out of feeling - all because of her.
Frankie De Rosa is my girl, my best friend. I haven't earned her yet, but I won't stand by and let anyone take her from me. She will be the greatest fight of my life, but she's worth the battle.
Love hurts, but anything worth having does, right?

I really loved the way this book came to life in the duet narration style. Really cool.
I don't know many people who consider themselves fans of cliffhangers but in this case it seems fitting with so much left to be resolved between the "Hitman" and his "Princess". So excuse me while I go ahead and jump into book 2!
"PHEW, I THINK I GOT WHIPLASH!!!!"
WOW!!! What an AWESOME story, packed full with a whirlwind of emotions! It was Intense! Suspenseful! Dramatic! Steamy! And Sexy!! I LOVED it! But geez, I thought I was going to get whiplash from all the push/pull between Deacon and Frankie!
Wen Ross, and Kai Kennicott should be up for an Audie!! Their performance was animated, flawless, and you can feel all the emotions throughout the story. This duo always does an outstanding job!
Love Hurts was a thrilling, suspenseful, steamy story, and all I can do is ditto all the positive reviews on this one!
"WOW, WHAT AN INTENSE & RIVETING JOURNEY"
He's all Alpha, he's gorgeous, he's volatile, he's a dirty talking hot MMA Fighter, his name is Deacon Love and his kryptonite is the woman he's loved forever - Frankie - his Princess. And, even though there's an invisible force field between them, the timing never seems quite right to tell Frankie just how he really feels about her..... but suddenly that all changes the moment when Frankie gets an Engagement ring on her finger.
Frankie's a Dancer, she's been a close part of the Love family since way back, her Dad and Deacon's Dad are good friends, there's three sons however she's closest and best friends with Deacon but she knows what a man-whore he is. So when he corners her at her Party and passionately professes his undying love she's shocked, angry, confused..... and very very turned on. His swift but heartfelt declaration starts off an intense chain of events that range from bloody dramatic and pulse-pounding shocks, passionate steamy and love filled highs and then anger and hurt filled lows as their push/pull relationship finally hits rock bottom.
You could really feel Deacon's anguish, confusion, hurt, rage, anger, jealousy, love and heartache as they both completely wrecked their all too delicate relationship.... and how can it ever be mended again? I loved Deacon's character - he was obsessed with claiming his Princess and remained devoted and focussed on winning her back however he also had qualifying Fights to prepare for that would, hopefully, get him to the Championship but the more they grew apart, the more his anger levels grew until he was a powder keg just waiting for the spark. I didn't think Frankie was fair to him and only fuelled his temper more and I thought the angst between them was nearly all her fault.... but I'm in Deacon's corner all the way.
Worth a credit? YES, I was hooked right from the start as they struggled to be together then there was scorching heat and dirty talking passion followed by a lot of emotional intensity and insanity. There's also the threat of imminent danger because her vicious and mysterious ex, who has already proved he's capable of murder, is somewhere in the wings waiting to strike again. It's a stinger of a cliffhanger but Hallelujah coz book 2 is already here. Mainly told from Deacon's POV but there are infrequent ones from Frankie's POV too and I love Wen and Kai's style of narration because they each stick to their own gender's voice so conversations, and the Chapters, flow smoothly so you're left to concentrate on all the unfolding delicious lip smacking drama.
"My Two Pennies "
Can I have my very own Deacon please? This man is strong sexy and a beautiful protector, Frankie "Princess" is damn lucky to have him as her best friend. There are some intense chapters where I'm practically holding my breath because of what happens. We're undoubtedly taken on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs more then once, just when I think it's all said and done BAM another drop and I'm basically back to square one trying to figure out what the happened. We are left with one helluva cliffhanger but have no fear because book 2 Love Burns is out now, you're going to want to start right in like I have did. I was left shock and need to know right now vibes about what just happened.
Is it wrong to want to call the author an evil hag? Quite possibly but let me explain.
Not only did Mandi Beck sucks me into the "best friend is in love with her and she doesn't know it" story immediately. But she made me cry out of heart break and despair.
Then she gives you a wonderful whirlwind love story...but what she does NOT do. What she forgot to mention is that she isn't done messing with your heart, hormones, or your instinct to fight.
So is it nice to call her an evil hag, no. Does it make me feel better- sadly no. Do I really think that of her...nope. But FYI, she gets off on drink the tears of her readers. - She told me that herself. She failed to mention that she was going to ruin my day with the crazy unanswered questions too!
Seriously, what the heck!?!
So in short, Mandi Beck rocked the story, kept me entertained, did not do what I thought, and left me hanging for book two...Love Burns. I salute evil Queen Mandi. I will bow down because I know I have been beaten.
Also, I totally got book 2.
If you have the chance do the Amazon Whisper Sync. It's totally worth the ability to switch between book and audio. More of an on the go friendly and the voices...hmmm yeah. Wen can growl in my ear all day long!
OMG AMAZING!!! THANK GOD FOR THE PREVIEW OF BOOK 2 "LOVE BURNS" AT THE END OR I WOULD'VE BEEN SCREAMING, YELLING & COMPLETELY UPSET!! SO THANK YOU FOR THAT MANDI BECK!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BOOKS BY MANDI BECK & I CAN'T RAVE ENOUGH ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE WEN ROSS AND KAI KENNICOTT!! I have my favorite Narrators that are ONLY Women OR ONLY Men....BUT AS A DUEL NARRATION WEN & KAI TAKE THE CAKE!! THEY ARE AMAZING ABSOLUTELY EPIC!! I found them by accident & I'M SO GRATEFUL I DID!! They go ABOVE & BEYOND when narrating!! YOU CAN TELL THEY LOVE WHAT THEY DO!! They DON'T each do a Chapter, they Mingle it TOGETHER!! They DON'T just say "HE SIGHED" They actually SIGH!! IT IS SOMETHING LIKE I'VE NEVER HEARD BEFORE!! I WILL LISTEN TO EVERY SINGLE BOOK THEY DO!! OK THIS REVIEW IS LONG ENOUGH....I MUST GO BUY "LOVE BURNS" RIGHT THIS SECOND!!!
"A Must Read Book"
Yes, it was a great book. It had a great story line and Mandi Beck is an amazing author.
Love Hurts by Mandi Beck was another great book by the author. I have loved reading about Deacon and Frankie. From the beginning I wanted to see Deacon and Frankie together. They have been friends forever but never took their relationship to another level. I loved reading about how devoted Deacon is even though there were many times that I wanted to smack him upside the head. I can't wait to read more of their story and more of Mandi's books.
"Because we all know that love really does hurt"
Wow! I've listened to some pretty epic books, but Kai and Wen just do something for me. They have such great chemistry and they flow together so nicely. I just love these two. And they do romance like no other. I would say this is one of my top romance audios to date.
Sacrifice by Adriana Locke comes to mind, but that's probably because Kai and Wen narrate that book as well. Throw in the fact that it is also about a fighter who is madly in love with a woman and you have similarities. However, that is where those similarities end. The two books couldn't be more different.
I don't want to choose because both are absolutely amazing, but there is something about Deacon, performed by Wen Ross, that calls to my inner romantic. He's tough, loyal, a fighter, a lover, and that voice is ah-mazing. I could listen to him all day.
Yes! I wish I could have finished this book in one sitting. It's books like this that remind me of why I'm a reader and why I love listening to books. If I didn't have other obligations, I would have finished this book much sooner than I did.
Love Hurts is a great book. It gave me all the feels. I found myself sighing and complaining and experiencing everything as Deacon and Frankie experienced them. Author Mandi Beck did a great job with these characters. Wen and Kai did an amazing job of making those characters come to life.
"Steamy and full of suspense!"
This is an amazing read and Kai and Wen really bring it to life! The author really does a wonderful job painting the scenes with words and conveying the energy and emotion as the book plays out. I listened to this all in one sitting and had to move on to the next book after it was finished!
"On the edge all the time"
This book leads me to what might sound like a contradictory review. I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed it enough to definitely want to read the next one. While I thought Deacon and Frankie needed to grow up at times and behave more maturely, that never once made me want to stop reading or took away from the story. Yes, I asked myself, why does Frankie keep "Flashdance" around when she knows how much it drives Deacon crazy. And, she knows she loves him and he would do anything for her. But, then Deacon and his tantrums are a bit over the top. YET, it's one of those stories where you are watching two characters go through what they go threw, childish behavior and tantrums and all, but its a great story. Usually these turn out to be badly written characters in a story that had potential, but just didn't quite come together. This was just the opposite for me. Despite the fact that the characters had these flaws, the story was engaging, made you want to know what would happen next, and I was still rooting for these characters. I'm an MMA girl, so I love the fight stuff. And, I wish that Frankie had taken some of the jujitsu and other martial arts since her dad owned fighting gyms. Nothing like a girlie girl who can kick butt if she has too. Not much else to say without giving away too much. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one.
I listened to the audio of this and enjoyed Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott. I've listened to several of their audios now and have become a fan. I don't always like multiple narrators. But, these two work well together.
"Awesome !! 10 Stars For Narration alone !!"
Yes; the story line was good. Characters were believable. The heroine was a bit dense at times but overall it was a good read. The narrators brought the book to life. It was pleasant to listed to. Great author, but now I'm looking for other books performed by the narrators.
