The hotel was old, run-down. But to Swiss-born Hugues Martin, a young, ambitious hotelier trained in the most illustrious European traditions, it is a rough diamond, tucked away on a quiet, perfectly situated Manhattan street. After begging and borrowing every penny he can scrape together, Hugues purchases the building - and transforms it into one of the world’s finest luxury hotels.
Under Hugues’s tireless, exacting supervision, the Hotel Vendôme is soon renowned for its elegance, its efficiency, its unparalleled service and discretion - the ideal New York refuge for the rich and famous, as well as a perfect home for Hugues’s beautiful young wife and their daughter. But when his wife runs off with a notorious rock star, Hugues is suddenly a single parent to four-year-old Heloise - who will grow up happily regardless, amid a fascinating milieu of celebrities, socialites, politicians, world travelers, and the countless hotel employees who all adore her.
As the years pass, Hugues and the hotel are the center of Heloise’s life, a universe of unexpected mysteries and pleasures, crises and celebrations that make every day magical. She longs to follow in her father’s footsteps and one day run the Vendôme with him. New challenges mark her way: an unexpected romance for Hugues and her own journey to hotel school in Switzerland. The lessons she has learned at her father’s side, in their exciting upstairs-downstairs world, will carry her through it all, as they illuminate a story no listener will forget.

"Love this one"
I really enjoyed this book there was a lot happening slightly unbelievable the main character brings up his daughter alone and is too frightened to tell her he wants a life of his own when she is an adult. However I did enjoy it very much.
"Repetitive, boring, repetitive"
Don't think so.
Need to find a more vibrant narrator. Stella is too monotone. No emotion.
Very disappointed. Needs to go back to writing books comparable to her first novels.
"Nothing Nothing Nothing"
I can now say that I have listened to an entire Danielle Steel book wherein absolutely NOTHING HAPPENS. I kept waiting for something resembling a climax to a book, listening ... listening ... listening. Save your money/credit.
I like Danielle Steele and have read many of her books. This one, however, is so dull and so predictable that I didn't even finish it. It's like a long overview of a story that could have been so much more. And the narrator speaks like he is reading a story to a room full of 5 year olds. It was a miss on all counts so I'll wait for her next work to come out and hope for better.
to have put more thought and energy into it. Was as though this book had to be written in a hurry.
hard to say.
all--I would have started over.
glad I didn't have to pay the store prices for this one.
"A good relaxing book"
It is relaxing to listen to it, the narrator is very good.
his pronunciations of the foreign words were flawless and characters portrayals are consistent throughout the book.
At first I thought it was the reader, because it sounded like he was reading a laundry list. Then I realized it was written that way. No imagination or personality in this.
It is a perfect staff for relaxation. I call it a "brain candy."
No need. The story serves relaxation purpose perfectly.
All are pretty nice.
I had quit reading Danielle Steel books for a while and after hearing about this one I decided I'd give it a try, it was a fantastic book!
How the characters changed for the better.
When Heloise got married.
This book seemed like it was written by a first time novice. Very bland, poor character development, almost immature writing style.
"Won't be able to turn this book off."
The narrater kept me enthralled from beginning till end.
The father daughter relationship.
All are very well read.
Work hard for what you want out of life.
Haven't been into audio books that long but I can't see myself ever buying another book. Love these and I can listen to them while working.
