Publisher's Summary

Everything's bigger in Big Sky country, including the hearts of the Montana Men.

Champion rodeo rider Dane Bowden is eight seconds from winning under the Vegas lights, one last hurrah before reluctantly returning to his family's Montana ranch. But his bull has other plans. When Dane wakes up, he's sure he's died and gone to heaven...because the doctor who comes to his aid is the same girl who saved his life and disappeared years ago.

Bell would do anything for Dane. He's the fantasy that always kept her going. A child genius hidden away by her family, Bell was the secret no one talked about, the girl no one wanted. Despite finding success as a young surgeon, she's still the awkward girl who's never had a boyfriend. So why does Dane, a notorious playboy and sizzling-hot cowboy, insist on taking her on a real date?

Bell is the only woman in Dane's heart. When a rodeo rivalry turns deadly, it's his turn to save Bell's life - because he sure as hell won't lose his guardian angel again.

    Story
    "Contemporary cowboy"

    Setting: Montana, contemporary
    Genre: Romance

Bell was raised in social isolation by her fanatically religious grandmother. She wasn't allowed to go to school, but her beloved late grandfather taught her to read before he died when she was 4 years old. Thereafter she was self-educated and became a practicing orthopedic surgeon by the time she turned 26. She lives in a ranching community outside of Bozeman, where she works. Dane has a well-earned reputation as a man-whore, bedding many but loving none. He is a rodeo bull rider who, just after the buzzer sounded indicating he had won the championship, was thrown and trampled by the bull. Bell was in the stands and saved his life, and was able to save his mangled leg by performing surgery. Thereafter follows the relationship development. There is a subplot involving the mentally unstable ex of one of Dane's friends.
Bell is not a believable character. She is socially awkward, but that is inconsistently demonstrated. Dane is enjoyable, as are many of the secondaries, but even so, his change in character is rather sudden.
The narration, as I said, was really bad. The character differentiation wasn't well done, and the reading was often overly dramatic. Also, the voices of many of the characters were just irritating. It is really difficult to judge the potential of the book because of the narration. I found myself trying to hear the book without all the drama and poor vocal talent, but it just ended up distracting me.
This is my first book by Jennifer Ryan, so I will reserve judgment on her writing until I have read her in print or ebook. If I decide to try another of her books, I'll get it in an inexpensive Kindle format.

    "some what predictable format"

I have listened to a number of audio books by Jennifer Ryan and they all follow the same format. I even got confused what I was listening to as I have just had a book by Nora Roberts which was very similar.
