Now he's back in Peaceful Harbor, and Jewel is no longer 16 years old - but there's an even bigger obstacle standing in his way. Nate and Rick joined the military together eight years earlier. "Healed by Love -a must Listen!"
This beautiful Melissa Foster book was made sweeter by listening to it narrated by BJ Harrison. He has such a smooth voice and often surprised me in the fun way he represented the characters. This story about Nate Braden and Jewel Fisher is full of emotion. Nate returns from the military carrying a load of guilt. Jewel's brother Rick was killed and Nate feels responsible. Nate also feels something for Jewell. Will he be able to move beyond his guilt? BJ Harrison really brings Melissa Foster's words to life. Loved this audio book.
"Nate and Jewel"
Nate is home from the military, and feeling guilty. He’s in love with his best friend’s little sister. And, he feels responsible for his best friend’s death. For Jewel, losing her dad and her brother changed her outlook and her future. She feels responsible for her mom and her younger siblings. Nate and Jewel love each other, but they need to get past their feelings of responsibility and get to the business of each other. The story is somewhat predictable, but it was still very enjoyable.
I listened to an audio-version of this book. The narrator was good. He made even awkward scenes seem real and ok. I enjoyed listening to this story, knowing the happily ever after was on its way.
"An emotional, satisfying read!"
This has to be one of my favorite Melissa Foster books so far. You have an average every-day kind of guy in Nate. Yes, he was in the military and has survivor's guilt because he survived and his best friend didn't, but he's still just the guy next door. Jewell is the little sister of Nate's best friend (yeah...I love that trope). She's got her own issues after losing first her father and then her big brother. She's constantly afraid of losing someone else, which has made her a control freak where her family is concerned.
Nate has to fight his own battles and Jewell's in order to have a relationship with her. He's also been keeping a secret...a secret that could totally tear them apart. If Jewell can forgive Nate when he finally tells her the secret, he might be able to help her in return. She has to decide if "they" are worth all the pain.
Emotions were front and foremost in this book and there was deep character development in the process. A great writing job by Melissa Foster and the narration by B.J. Harrison was superb, as always!
"I love this branch of the Bradens."
Let me start by raving about the narrator. I have listened to Melissa's Love in Bloom series from the beginning and BJ Armstrong is the absolute perfect voice for this series. Once again the tone of his voice and the pace that he reads is wonderful. I find myself sneaking away and finding time to listen just for his voice. Add to his voice the amazing story and you have the perfect listening material. Now onto my thoughts about the actual story...
I love this branch of the Bradens. They are the cousins of Hal’s family and just as scrumptious. Nate is a military man, YUM!, and is dealing with the loss of his best friend, Rick. After two years of being gone he has returned home to the place he has avoided, Peaceful Harbor. I felt for Nate. Nate and Rick went to war together, Nate came home a hero and Rick did not make it home at all. The guilt is overwhelming. Add to that guilt that fact that you are in love with his little sister and it could do a weaker man in. Thank God for his strong family. The Bradens, no matter which branch of the tree they come from, all have that in common. They are strong, loyal, and fierce in protecting each other.
Jewel, Rick’s little sister, has loved Nate forever. Now that he is home she knows that she has to have him. She doesn’t want a one night stand she wants forever, until Nate shares his secret. It could be enough to tear them apart or it could pull them together.
Anyone who has read Melissa Foster’s books before know that they should expect strong characters. Both Jewel and Nate are incredibly strong. They have their beliefs, know what they want, and know where they want to end up. The fun is how they got there.
