"Expecting A Bite, But Got A Nibble!"
After listening to the first books in Eve Langlais other series, I was expecting this story to have some humor; however, this story came across as more serious. Croc's return is the first story I've listened that was about a shifter reptile, and it just didn't captivate me like other shifter stories.
Overall the plot and character development was good. I liked how Caleb and Renny come to terms with their past, and move on with their future together. The action was decent as they face dangerous situations, and there is a mystery to solve, but I really missed Eve's humor from her other series. I'm on the fence about continuing this series; however, even though this story was not what I was looking for, it still deserves at least four stars.
The narration was really good! This is the first story I've heard narrated by Chandra Skyye, and she did a great job.
"Take a bite out of this story"
I enjoyed this shapeshifter story. It is not every day you have a shifter that is a reptile. What is Bittech actually working on? Where are the missing people in the town and who is creating "monsters"?As usual, Ms Langlais adds her brand of humor to the story. The secondary characters are strong and will appear again in the rest of the series. My only problem with the narration was that Ms Skyye pronounced the main character's name as Cal-in instead of Kay-lib
"croc begs forgiveness"
I love Eve's books and hearing this story after he told all of Kodiak points stories made me very happy
"Great Aubible Book"
It is a very enjoyable listen. The narrator does well to convey the humor of the situations.
I listen to quiet a bit of audiobooks and find it hard to compare one author and narrator with next, though I would rank Eve's humor and writing up there with Robin Peterman and Mimi Jean Pamfiloff.
I enjoyed the all the characters in the book. Chandra Skye is a great job in giving the essence of all the characters.
One of the funniest bits in the book is when Caleb meets Princess and is relegated to riding in the back of the truck.
Eve Langlias is a constantly a great writer. I love her quirky humor.
"Good, more for the military at heart"
This book is a romantic love story with shifter and mystery, plus military.
Caleb after fighting for your country and you decide to go home, but nothing is what it use to be. Remember when you make a choice there are consequences. He had no idea what he left behind, even though the cold shoulders did not deter him from claiming his mate. Even though he not only has a broken heart to mend he has a mess to clean up, not to mention the memories that haunt him. Before he can more forward he must heal his past.
Renny has always loved Caleb, but when he up and left for the military with only a text, it not only hurt it shattered her. She too has to suffer the consequences of her actions, and the one thing that Caleb left behind has given her no choice but to keep going on without him. Working two jobs to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table is taking a toll on her and when out of the blue Caleb comes back in thinking he can save the day, Renny is not so willing to give in again.
Good book, but not my kind of story. I was a bit disappointed, there was not as much comedy in this book like her others.
"Croc is the man!"
It was well written and exciting. Fast paced. Loved getting to know the characters from Bitten Point.
When he learned that he was a father.
She was great. A voice that keeps you interersted for sure.
Yes, oh yes.
Eve is great! Love her writing style.
"Second chance romance"
This is sort of a spin off from Kodiak Point as Caleb is from the same military unit, but can be read without reading the other series though I highly recommend the other series as it is great and my favorite. 🙂
Never read a book before with a croc shifter so I thought this was very interesting, who would have thought a croc could be so sexy.
Caleb is a broken man, his time spent in the military wears on him, plus the reason that he ran away in the first place ways heavy on him. He was a lovable character. Renny is a non-shifter born into a shifter world but she is still pretty tough especially when it comes to protecting her son. Because she knows about shifters it is easier for her to not be scared of Caleb’s croc side and even though she tries to not want him when he returned she was still in love with him. Cute, sweet story.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and if you like paranormal romances then I think you should give this author a try.
"This story keeps you interested in the MYSTERY"
Well written and engaging story. Filled with a suspense due to a mystery that unfolds and resolved situations that need answers. There were not any supporting characters of different races, colors or ethnicity except humans & shifters. But, there is a love story that a reader will cheer for and hope for the best. Worth a credit? yea, sure . I'm a sucker for Eve Langlais shifter stories. Still it is rare to find shifter romance with middle aged shifters story containing friends or co workers of different colors & cultures inter acting in a community.
IT RANKS IN THE TOP I REALLY LOVED IT
I THOUGHT THIS SERIES IS A FUN ,SWEET,WITH SOME DRAMA
"Good book but not pleased with narrator"
To start, I would like to talk about the narration. To prospective buyers: please listen to enough of the sample that you hear how the female narrator does male voices in an awful monotone. To me, that was the worst part of the audiobook; I think that she made the male voices unrealistic and unsexy. In addition, that narrator was not good at reading funny lines. Eve is a funny author, and I feel that this narrator made the audiobook into a lower quality reading experience than the ebook, when it should be the opposite.
As for the book itself, I liked it. It was a good start to a new series, and I am looking forward to reading the ebooks for the rest of the series. The primary male character Caleb did not catch my interest at first, but I liked him by the end of the book. He is not very smart and he made some major mistakes in the past four years, but he turned himself around during the book and became an admirable person. I really like the main female character Renny; she was strong and relatable.
The setting was really cool: swampland in southern Florida and an adjacent town called Bitten Point, mostly populated by paranormal people who can shapeshift into various species of animal. In this world, humans do not know about shifters, and the shifters want to keep it that way. The book has a good amount of mystery and suspense involving shifters being abducted. What I did not like was the overabundance of mundane human problems that these supernatural people had: lack of money, working two jobs, being a single mom, family members abandoning people, etc. I like my PNR books to be less humdrum and angsty, but thankfully this book became way more exciting and paranormal in the second half.
This is the first PNR book that I have encountered in which a primary character is a reptile shifter. In this case, Caleb can shift into a crocodile! I really loved this innovation in the subgenre. Caleb hears his crocodile personality talking in his head sometimes (cool!). Also, we get to read about how it feels to have the body and instincts of a crocodile. The third book of the series will have a Python shifter!
Some of the minor characters in this book were great, such as Caleb's brother and his adoration of his hilarious pet chihuahua. Also, Renny's son Luke was adorable.
I think that this series should be read in order. This book was good, but I think that the rest of the series will be great. I have the sense that Eve Langlais was just warming up with this one. I won't get the rest of the series in audiobook because they will have the same inadequate narrator, but I am definitely buying the ebooks!
