A Family Affair is where it all began...Heartache, Betrayal, Forgiveness, Redemption...all wrapped up in the people you will love to love, and those you will love to hate!
When Christine Blacksworth's larger-than-life father is killed on an icy road in Magdalena, New York, a hundred miles from the 'getaway' cabin he visited every month, she discovers a secret that threatens everything she's always held to be true. Her father has another family which includes a mistress and a daughter. Determined to uncover the truth behind her father's secret life, Christine heads to Magdalena, prepared to hate the people who have caused her to question everything she thought she knew about her father. But what she finds is a woman who understands her, a half-sister who cherishes her, and a man who could love her if she'll let him. The longer she's around them, the more she questions which family is the real one…

I got this book on my Kindle, then bought the Whisper-snyc version. I liked the parts I read much more than the parts that I listened to, because the narrator's voices annoyed me.
"Scandal in the Family"
The narrator was able to personify each person with a vocal range that brought to life the feelings of pain, hurt, sorrow and also the deep seated turmoil evident within the psyche of the main personalities.
Unconditional love, forgiveness, family interaction and also two sisters who met under difficult circumstances, but learned to love each other and gained acceptance because of their common heritage.
Lily's reaction to meeting Christine was so heartwarming, she was so joyous as her longing to meet this sister she loved so much was finally a reality. Her dreams came true. This was my favourite moment.
There was so much heartbreak within this book, my heart was touched. But the melding of the love and joy this second family brought into the lives of the siblings made me smile and shed a few tears at the pathos of it all. It was amazing that Christine could become a part of the other family.
The characters were well developed and the story line was uncommon and gave a look into the hearts of people who vacillate and accept less than what they are worth. The author was able to bring some understanding of the why of the situations portrayed. The writing style kept the story interesting, too. To me, it was believable as similar stories have unfolded in real life.
"Real Life Story"
Yes. This book felt like 'real life,' not a fairytale.
The feeling that this story really happened.
When the 2 families meet.
"enjoyed the story"
the characters in the book were interesting and varied. the story had a happy ending which I loved. and was fast paced.
Got the audible book and started it...but then I couldn't get into the story without having to deal with the narrator's abrupt, over enunciated reading. (She sounded more like a student reading aloud in 7th grade literature class than a professional narrator.) Finally had to just read the Kindle version for myself, and enjoyed it thereafter.
"Excellent story. Excellent narration!"
Excellent story! The characters really take take a hold of your heart and make you realize the true meaning of love.
The narrator was easy to listen to and follow.
Christine. I liked the way she tackled her problems head on.
This was the first Mary Campisi book I have listened to and I will be listening to more of her works. She is a talented writer. You could easily follow her characters through the story. It had some parts that were adult themed. Overall I really enjoyed this book.
"I love this story"
I highly recommend this story. It is such a wonderful story. I read the book and had to listen to it too. The story is such a good one re reading and re hearing it is a must for me!
The bond between Christine and Lilly
I cried several times when listening to this book
This is such a great story!
"Great story, not "G" rated!"
Great story, but occasionally too explicit for my Christian beliefs. First read for this author, so might be her style. Unknown to me.
"Enjoyed the story but .."
I have not read the print version but I must say that the overly precise enunciation of this narrator was painful to listen to at times.
A different narrator would be my suggestion.
I loved this book, I loved that Nate and Christine found their happy ever after, Christine found that money and wealth don't always bring happiness,Nate found out that things are not always as the seem, we all make mistakes in life but to be given a second chance to make things right makes all the difference 😀
Fantastic book Mary Campisi, can't wait for book 2
