In one way or another, we all carry trauma. It can manifest as anxiety, shame, low self-esteem, over-eating, under-eating, addiction, depression, confusion, people-pleasing, under-earning, low mood, negative thinking, social anxiety, anger, brain fog and more. Traumas, big or 'little', leave us trapped in cycles of dysfunctional behaviours, negative thoughts and difficult feelings. Yet many people are unaware they're stuck in old reactions and patterns that stem from their past traumas.

Story
In the first half of life, we are naturally preoccupied with establishing ourselves; climbing, achieving, and performing. But as we grow older and encounter challenges and mistakes, we need to see ourselves in a different and more life-giving way. This message of falling down - that is in fact moving upward - is the most resisted and counterintuitive of messages in the world's religions. Falling Upward offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life's mysteries: how those who have fallen down are the only ones who understand "up".

Story
The great fourth-century church father Basil of Caesarea once observed that, in his time, most Christians believed that hell was not everlasting, and that all would eventually attain salvation. But today, this view is no longer prevalent within Christian communities. In this momentous book, David Bentley Hart makes the case that nearly two millennia of dogmatic tradition have misled readers on the crucial matter of universal salvation.

Story
Franciscan priest Richard Rohr feels that there is no more challenging spiritual issue than the “problem of the self". Most of contemporary spiritual teaching, he believes, is still trying to inspire and fortify the private self, the autonomous "I". Even much church work is trying to evangelize and sacramentalize what many would call "the false self." Basic transformation is not expected, but merely a new set of beliefs and practices or loyal membership in a new group.

Story
“Jesus - the Jesus we might discover if we really looked,” explains Wright, “is larger, more disturbing, more urgent than we had ever imagined. We have successfully managed to hide behind other questions and to avoid the huge, world-shaking challenge of Jesus’s central claim and achievement. It is we, the churches, who have been the real reductionists. We have reduced the kingdom of God to private piety; the victory of the cross to comfort for the conscience; Easter itself to a happy, escapist ending after a sad, dark tale. Piety, conscience, and ultimate happiness are important...."

Publisher's Summary
The New York Times best-selling author's newest book is a guide to art, science, sex and death.
In Everything Is Spiritual, author Rob Bell explores how ideas about creation, love and connection shaped him and how they shape every one of us. Bell observes that more than anything, people want to understand their purpose here on earth. And when you embrace who and where you come from, including your wounds, your pains and your regrets, you will discover that lurking there in the mess of life is an invitation to expand - just as the universe has been expanding for 13 billion years.
Written in a lyrical, almost stream of consciousness style, this wide-ranging book shares stories from Bell's life to illuminate lessons about the world around you to help you find purpose, meaning and connection.
Critic Reviews
"Rob Bell might have left the church, but he will always be my minister - in the purest and most uncorrupted sense of that word. Nobody else can take ancient teachings and modern science, and blend them together into wisdom that makes sense to me, and heals me. Rob's unorthodox and bold thinking stirs my intellect, comforts my heart and makes me believe that - within all the frightening chaos of the unknowable universe - I still have a sacred place. His work is a sacred gift to a troubled world." (Elizabeth Gilbert, New York Times best-selling author of Big Magic)

I binge-listened to this book.
It was rich and compelling.
Reminded me of the days watching Cosmos with Carl Sagan at my grandfather’s house when I was a teenager.

Loved every minute
Unlike robs early criticism here’s a review that’s actually about the book! Rob you’re perfect to listen to when running and driving and I’m sad the book is over as when you started talking about how we’re made it felt like only the beginning of everything being spiritual! Please write more and come back to Sydney to do the show! 💖💖💖

A book about everything
I wasn't expecting how personal, intimate and vulnerable Rob would be as he takes us on a journey through his life. We revisit old friends with the gift of new insights. Old stories are retold and concepts that have been explored in earlier books, tours, films or on the Robcast are now brought together and laid out before us. The pain is real, but so is the joy and delight in ancient ideas and new science. Just beautiful. Allow yourself to be drawn into a richer and deeper spirituality of the whole of life.
Pastor Rob [to quote Liz Gilbert] continues to minister to the world long after he left the broken institutional church.
The audiobook version is deeply enhanced because you get to hear the author's intention and emphasis in his own voice.
