Publisher's Summary
Welcome to Desperation.
Once a thriving copper-mining town in the middle of the Nevada desert, Desperation is now eerily abandoned. It's the last place that travellers like the Carver family, bound for vacation, and writer Johnny Marinville, astride his Harley, would expect to be stopped and charged. But Desperation still has a local cop - a unique regulator who patrols the wilderness highway.
The secrets buried in Desperation are as terrifying as the forces summoned to encounter them. A terrifying transformation is taking place, and the travellers will soon discover the true meaning of desperation....

a great story which would benefit from a re-record
I think I've been spoilt by Frank Muller, George Guidall and Steve Weber. I love your writing Mr King, but please for the love of all that is, stop trying to do Texas accents and leave it to the professionals 😀 xoxo

Warped take on a Western
This was a little middle of the road for me. It is an interesting read and one of the goriest kings I have read in some time. The more interesting parts for me were how he tackles religion vs cultism. Free will vs servitude. In true King fashion there are a a lot of characters and a lot of story lines to me this one just wasn’t as strong. I would be interested in seeing if my opinion changes after reading “the regulators’ which is a so called a un identical pair with this novel.

Classic Stephen King
This, to me, was a classic tale from Mr King, never setting a foot wrong, and personally narrating another of his harrowing, but in places beautiful stories.
I am always caught with wanting to get to the end of his novels to relieve the suspense but equally wanting to not rush, and absorb all the details and minutia which Stephen King has always provided.
Loved this story.

Enjoyed but wished it was read by another talent
I really enjoyed the story in this book but really wished it was performed by someone other than King. So many hours of his nasal, non expressive tone would have been exhausting were in not for the great story. With all of the highly talented audiobook readers available I have no idea why he would have read it himself

A good story
😂 the first review I saw complained of SK’s monotone performance causing him to want to slit his wrists 🤣
My husband finds his voice annoying lol
I guess I hear them, however, a lifetime of loving the writer as well as enjoying him in many cameos in his movies bestows me with a unconditional love. Like a mother I forgive him of all things, from less than a not so top of the line tome, to his sometimes surprising and silly political comments (I don’t care which side you are on, ALL those politicians are criminal psychopaths.
So go on you brilliant storyteller! I love to listen to your stories read by you 💜
