Publisher's Summary

For fans of World War Z, a chilling mystery, an ancient threat, and a race against time to save humanity—inspired by the true events of the Dyatlov Pass incident

Russia, 1959. Nine members of a Soviet mountaineering team on an ambitious expedition into the Ural Mountains are found dead, victims of massive and bizarre injuries. The Dyatlov Pass incident, as this grisly event came to be known, remains unexplained to this day.

Iraq, 2019. Ex-soldier-turned-mercenary Cameron Becker is escorting a Russian businessman named Luka Belikov through Baghdad. It seems like a routine job, until Belikov is abducted on Becker’s watch. After forming an uneasy alliance with WHO medic Lori Dalton, Becker sets out to uncover the truth behind the attack, and quickly realizes he’s caught in the middle of something far bigger and more dangerous. As bio-terrorists prepare to unleash a virus that causes humans to descend into ravenous madness, the pair are thrust into a desperate race against time to prevent a global plague that could wipe out human civilization.

Who is behind the attack? What do they want? And how can humanity hope to survive? Becker and Dalton’s answers may just lie deep within the icy wastes of the Ural Mountains.…

A fun ride through different genres.

As a rock climber and mountaineer who makes horror films the sections on zombies and Dyaltov were awesome and gave the military aspects of the story a fresh and exciting feel.

A very enjoyable story with great narration.

I enjoyed this audio book. It had a perfect self contained story with satisfying arc's and surprise.
A good twelve hour escape while working.

Also - Note to author; If there is ever a sequel it needs the Dr Who Teddy Bear.

Absolutely superb

This is the first book I've listened to from Will Jordan and wow what a great one. It's well written, has great character development, some intense and engaging action scenes. You know it's a great book when you can imagine every scene playing out like a feature film. I would LOVE to see this at the cinema. It would make a great film. Becker is a great character and I hope we see more of him in the future.

my only negative is that some of it was a little predictable, like suspecting who the villain was as soon as they appeared. But when the payoff happens it's worth it. That's another sign of a good story.

I can even imagine who I would choose for the cast. Maybe Daniel MacPherson as Becker, Willa Fitzgerald as Dalton and maybe Allan Richson as Vorster (if he can pull off an Austrian accent.)

I would absolutely recommend this book as an entry point to Will's books. I would also recommend searching up the information he adds at the beginning of each chapter. There is some seriously shady sh1t that has happened in the past and Will does a great job of highlighting that. Anthrax Island and the pass in the Urals so central to the story.

The narrator is also very good and easy to understand. Although his attempt at English was a bit off a couple of times but I can accept that. Americans are never that good at doing English, Australian or New Zealand accents in my experience.

Brilliant, succinct, tense

Dark Harvest is a cleverly written and entertaining read. Jordan's talent for writing complex, interesting characters with realistic personalities and motivations shines yet again in this relatively short, very engaging and tightly written thriller. Becker's attitude makes him instantly entertaining and likeable as he carries the story along.

Realistic

A very enjoyable book that is accurate in its military terminology. Great character development, that actually act like people would in a real world situation, non of the dumb actions only taken by Hollywood actors to make the story happen.

Disappointed

I love the author’s other book series and I was looking forward to listen to this. On the positives it describes scenes amazingly, very visual and the narrator is exceptional. But it’s a very boring storyline, with plot-wholes, predictable actions and stereotyped characters.

Trite, boring with predictability

Hardly riveting stuff. We have been here before. Jordan I expected to have better imagination, but instead seems Brent on giving us more men in the forces with female sidekick bullshit
