One is dead. One is missing. Who is next?
Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel is first on the scene as a stolen car crashes on a misty, wet Manchester morning. The driver is dead, but the biggest shock awaits her when she discovers the body of a child wrapped in plastic in the boot of the car.
As Jessica struggles to discover the identity of the driver, a thin trail leads her first to a set of clothes buried in the woods and then to a list of children's names abandoned in an allotment shed.
With the winter chill setting in and parents looking for answers, Jessica must find out who has been watching local children and how this connects to a case that has been unsolved for 14 years.

"Good stuff in keeping with the rest of the series!"
Well written and compelling,
The series is consistently good.
She is an excellent narrator. She is clear, has great tone and paces well.
I'm enjoying getting to know Jessica Danial better with each book in the series.
"Great book in the series"
Great story that had me hooked for the whole thing. All of the books in this series are great.
loved it, very entertaining. the story flow's through personal relationships into professional ones seamlessly giving an almost there feeling throughout.
I'd be less inclined to buy any further books by this author.
I'm not put off, as I've enjoyed many other books in this genre.
It was just OK..
Once the book had finished, I was left irritated that I had spent the time listening to it , as the motives given for each of the three disappearances were far-fetched and unrealistic.
"Decent build up ruined by a terrible ending"
I have read and enjoyed previous books in this series but for me this was just rubbish. The build up and background is good but the end makes no sense. Trying to avoid spoilers the central problem is that there are inaccuracies and plot holes through the final third of the book. One of the mistakes is so blatant that it makes the whole ending nonsensical. I was left frustrated and annoyed and I would expect it would do the same for others.
