THE BESTSELLER THAT DEFINED AN AGE
From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Goldfinch

'Everything, somehow, fit together; some sly and benevolent Providence was revealing itself by degrees and I felt myself trembling on the brink of a fabulous discovery, as though any morning it was all going to come together---my future, my past, the whole of my life---and I was going to sit up in bed like a thunderbolt and say oh! oh! oh!'

Under the influence of a charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at a New England college discover a way of thought and life a world away from their banal contemporaries. But their search for the transcendent leads them down a dangerous path, beyond human constructs of morality.

I love Donna Tartt's writing. The Secret History did not disappoint. However I did not enjoy the voice of Donna in this audiobook. Her male characters are completely believable as she writes them but as a female narrator, it just doesn't work as well as it could. The Goldfinch with male narrator was so much more immersive

this is my new favourite book! a brilliantly cunning and intriguing storyline and with even greater narration! lavishly cunning and intriguing, somehow oh so relatable, i felt as if i was apart of the story. Noteworthy! definitely a book for a first time reader looking for the inspiration to read more.

one of the greatest literary pieces

I often thought about how I would react if I was plunged into this elite, close-knit clique at Hampden College. Much like Richard, I feel I would be no more than a mere bystander, lacking the agency and conviction to take any deliberate actions.

The characters are interesting, complex, and unique. As soon as you buy into their world, you have no choice but to go along for the ride.

The novel draws you in and ties you up in it all.

I loved this novel. Not a murder mystery in the usual sense, but the story of a murder. Mysterious in its own way, as mystery surrounds the characters. Written in the first person, the protagonist gradually reveals the complexities of the sinister plot, whilst the characters continuously develop throughout the pages to the end. Beautifully narrated by the author, Donna Tartt.
