Do the impossible, or lose your family forever....
Edgar Hill, unsympathetic husband and halfhearted father, finds himself in a hopeless situation. Despite all his best efforts, he hasn't managed to keep his family together. In fact they are further from him than ever - 550 miles, to be precise.
And in a world near annihilated by a terrible disaster, leaving the UK harsh and brutal, uncrossable by car or bike, his journey to find his loved ones will be fraught with challenges.
His best option is to run. But what if your best isn't good enough?

"Best book I've listened to all year"
I listen to dozens of books each year from Audible as I walk the dog. Without question, this is the best I've listened to in many many months. Fantastic narration and a story that is gripping. My dog has had much longer walks these past few days as I've listened on that little bit longer! Can't recommend highly enough.
"British Walking Dead without Zombies"
Not bad, I would call it a middle class British version of the Walking Dead, but without zombies. Jot Davies did a great Jon with the narration, loads of different voices!
I really enjoyed this, read brilliantly with great accents that really captured the essence of the characters. Good story, bit drawn out in a couple of parts but soon picked up again. Engrossing listen. Excellent.
Wasn't too sure in the first couple of chapters but then it suddenly drew me in and from that point I loved it - completely immersed in the characters and the story. It's an unusual take on the apocalyptic tale, a journey from Scotland to Cornwall, meeting lots of psychologically disturbed people along the way and others just trying to get by in the new, broken world.
For me the star of the show is the narrator though, he brought it to life where so many others could have killed it. It's not often the narrator is able to breathe life into characters so spectacularly and I would listen to it again. yes great story but mostly to hear him tell it.
I've already recommended to two avid apocalypse story fanatics in my family !
"V v good"
Get beyond the first couple of chapters & this is a very good book. If in doubt stick with it!
"Great book - a real gem"
I had no idea what this book was going to entail as I didn't read the synopsis. Thus, I didn't really understand the title until a good way into the book
As a bit of a sucker for a post apocalyptic book, I was probably always going to enjoy this but it was really excellently written. It was almost painful reading some sections about early fatherhood because the descriptions were too close to the bone.
Although the running part of it seems at it's core to give a vehicle to delve into the world of various post apocalyptic scenarios and the human psyche that develops therein, it becomes about more than that.
The running becomes a metaphor for the self analysis and delving of the deeper layers of the personality of the protagonist.
This is real corker of a book and one that would have paid the full price for easily. I'm stoked to have picked it up when it was on offer
Brilliantly narrated with good accent range and consistency
Light the fuse on this one and prepare for the 'Big-Bang!'. Absolutely unstoppable and unputdownable. If there's one book to digest this year, this is it. Well, what are you waiting for?
"Great characters, performance is excellent! "
I wasn't sure what to expect but it certainly didn't disappoint. The characters are engaging and the plot is fresh, original and wholly believable. The author definitely caught the sense of the average office worker facing the apocalypse without any cheesy over the top heroics.
"A gripping yarn"
I don't often read modern fiction. There are some telltale stylistic issues but they did not detract from the overall pleasure I derived from the story which was made even more gripping by the brilliance of its talented narrator. I recommend it highly.
loved it. Acting was spot on. story gripped me from start to finish. 5 stars
