Sharp-minded, somewhat cynical, McCready is a maverick whose independent style has often driven him beyond the rules. Presented to a panel of his peers, McCready's exploits may be dazzling evidence of his value, or damning proof that he must be put aside. Presiding over this long-shot effort by a great spymaster to save his career will be Timothy Edwards, McCready's most determined foe, and in the balance hangs the future of Britain's secret intelligence operations.

There is abridged, and there is the Cliff Notes. This version more resembles a granola bar than a light meal. A fan of Forsythe will be disappointed that little of his rich narrative has survived the compression process. Save your credit and wait for a full unabridged version.
This is one of my very favorite books. Classic British spy with superb story and reader.
It's actually several books in one in that it relates several cases the spy master has worked on during his career. So it is perfect for reading a section at a time. My only complaint is that only this abridged version is available but don't let that put you off - it is still a great listen. I know eventually they will put out an unabridged version BUT it's not going to have this good a reader as he will be a hard act to follow. So I recommend this book and not wait for the complete version.
"Forsyth,wie nur er es kann"
Eine tolle Sammlung kurzer Episoden, brillant gesprochen und typisch Forsyth. Sam McCready ist ein ebenso typischer, wie dann auch origineller Held. Die Geschichten spannend und man könnte jederzeit glauben, dass es sich genauso zugetragen haben muss!
Wonderful, as usual another great story with interesting characters and suspense.
a mix of three stories all too short and quickly over. A likely change of approach for Fred but not to my liking. I prefer a good meaty long involved story. If you really like Fred then you probably wont be too dissapointed, but be prepared for a let down.
I have read this book many times and I cant believe that alot of story was cut out. The story does suffer because of this.
