But then so does everyone. Certainly those in the women's shelter Marnie and Detective Sergeant Noah Jake visit on that fateful day. The day when they arrive to interview a resident, only to find one of the women's husbands, who shouldn't have been there, lying stabbed on the floor.

    "Very Good listen"
What did you like most about Someone Else's Skin?

The story was very good and and I found the main character DI Marnie Rome very believable along with her gay partner Noah.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Someone Else's Skin?

The asian girl having bleach poured into her eyes.

Have you listened to any of Abigail Thaw’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This was my first Abigail Thaw but it will not be my last

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

the domestic abuse and control and the need to inflict pain saddened me.

    Any additional comments?

The subject matter makes for some depressingly realistic reading but the story is very engaging and I couldn't find fault with anything

    "I enjoyed this book"

Not sure that the story was really believable but I enjoyed the story
    anyway.
A new detective with an interesting family history, a dark secret that wasn't dark, and an interesting sidekick.
Despite this sounding negative, I really enjoyed the book and will be looking out for more Sarah Hilary books.

    "Compelling Read"

I was gripped and intrigued by the main character DI Marnie Rome. This is book number one of a trilogy based on Marnie and serves as an introduction to her and how she works as a police officer and as always with a female lead something terrible and horrific happened in her past. The difference here is It shapes her and consumes her to the point that it interferes with her case. She seems intent on trying to get into the mind of the person who committed this terrible past crime and she almost misses vital information and kicks herself for arriving late at the answer of her current investigation which leads to a gripping finale towards the end of the book. Sarah Hilary's writing made me imagine it as a film but wonder how it would translate. Sarah does not gloss over some of the violent scenes she describes it as if it were happening as you can imagine. Brilliant read, I will be reading book two and wonder if this past character will show up as Marnie does not seem done with him yet!

    "Got to chapter 16!"
Has Someone Else's Skin put you off other books in this genre?

No, crime fiction is my favourite genre.

What aspect of Abigail Thaw’s performance might you have changed?

It was okay, but nit great.

    Any additional comments?

This book may improve further in. I reached chapter 16 and was not at all engaged, so gave up and will return it. I just found it rather dull. None of the characters had any depth at all by that point. I felt like the findings of a medical examination on one of the women were there in an attempt to shock, and up the tension. It did neither for me. I guess I have read/listened to too many crime fiction books. Ultimately, I feel this isn't worth my time.

I was recommended to this book by a friend and was not disappointed, it well deserves the Theakston's prize. Well rounded characters and a plot full of intrigue, I look forward to Sarah's next novel.

"Rather dark but gripping in parts"

My first try at Sarah Hilary's work. The characters are well drawn and the pictures painted by her words are vivid. Too much emphasis on violence and menace for my taste but the suspense was kept til the end and overall an interesting story.

Would you try another book written by Sarah Hilary or narrated by Abigail Thaw?

I think i was in the wrong frame of mind listening to this book. I found some parts brilliant but then i would zone out and not really pay attention in others. For this reason i would listen to another Sarah Hilary book to give it another chance.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I didn't really feel attached to any of the characters, i felt it didn't give you enough of each person to form a bond with them which is why it was easy for me to tune out every so often. I don't think i can blame the book entirely for this as i was tired the week i was listening to it which probably contributed to my not enjoying it as much as i may have done.
