Publisher's Summary

From Ronald H. Balson, author of Once We Were Brothers, Saving Sophie is the powerful story of the lengths a father will go through to protect his daughter and an action-packed thriller that will take you on an unforgettable journey of murder and deception, testing the bonds of family and love.

Jack Sommers was just an ordinary accountant from Chicago - that is until his wife passed away, his young daughter was kidnapped, and he became the main suspect in an $88 million embezzlement case. Now Jack is on the run, hoping to avoid the feds long enough to rescue his daughter, Sophie, from her maternal grandfather, a suspected terrorist in Palestine. With the help of investigative team Liam and Catherine, and a new CIA operative, a secret mission is launched not only to rescue Sophie but also to thwart a major terrorist attack in Hebron. But will being caught in the crossfires of the Palestine-Israeli conflict keep their team from accomplishing the task at hand, or can they overcome the odds and save countless lives, including their own?

    Story
"A fascinating mystery with an irritating victim"

This would have been an easy 5 star had it not been for the hero/victim's bad judgements on just about every key decision and maybe the biggest case of self pity in modern literature. But wait, this is still a great story with remarkablly evil and brilliant bad guys!

The crimes are well conceived and devilishly manipulative. Despite the foolish victim, his friends are loyal and equally smart and resourceful. And they are as tough and savvy as he is pitiful.

Fred Berman's natural voice is not my favorite, but his accents have to be the most realistic I have ever listened to. Truly he is magnificent.

Is it worth a credit? Absolutely.

"A Bit of Everything: Intrigue, Suspense, Romance"
Where does Saving Sophie rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best I've listened to in a very long time. Exciting and gets you hooked from the very beginning.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. Although it opens with intrigue, the main character's story is slowly revealed. I couldn't wait to hear more, & knew there was an intriguing, complicated truth to be discovered.

What does Fred Berman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Reading this book would be good too, but Mr. Berman brings the story alive.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, I was just "on the edge of my seat" during my listen.

    Any additional comments?

This is a well crafted & suspenseful novel. It has an excellent plot with twists & turns.

    "Great story! Narrator needs help."

I truly enjoyed every minute of this book. The story was wonderful and I wish the author had more books for me to read. He only has two out so far and I'm waiting for a third. The narrator did a nice job reading the story I keeping it animated and lively however he did a horrible job on the accents and pronunciation of many Hebrew words. They were butchered. I would have thought that he would've found out the proper way to speak an Arabic or Israeli accent before embarking on a book like this. I thought the Russian accent was done pretty well however.

"Swallowed this exciting book in a couple of days!"

Excellent plot. Suspenseful and unpredictable. Clean, though romantic characters. The accents are amaising, so realistic. Hard to believe it was all read by the sand person!
