He moves into a hotel and starts drinking again.
But his help is required to investigate a high-profile murder of a graphic designer and MD of a new tech start-up whose body was discovered buried in the sand dunes north of Cape Town. Can Benny pull together the strands of his life in time to catch the killer?

"Gripping storyline, excellently narrated"
My husband and I are big Deon Meyer fans and opted to download this audiobook for a road trip. We were sceptical as to how the various accents would be portrayed but we were very impressed. I would highly recommend this book - Deon Meyer at his best.
"Saul Reichlin is THE best narrator for this series"
Those South African accents and expressions, which are SO successfully performed by Saul Reichlin. He brings the characters to life, even larger than life. He brings the unique languages to life.
I don't have a favourite, I find myself equally attached to all of them, I guess because deon Meyer fleshes them each out with unique characteristics that help you to understand and imagine them, and to connect with them too. Meyer is very good at this indeed.
I don't have a favourite, and Reichlin is very good at giving all the characters a unique sound, so you never get confused about who's talking.
Not an extreme reaction, but a constant appreciation for how well it was written and narrated. I've listened to the entire series and they're all fantastic when Reichlin narrates.
It's clear that Meyer does a lot of research when he writes his books. I always learn something, and you never get the sense that he's just making up convenient details. It all feels legit. And he provides wonderfully rich details about a characters quirks and strengths and weaknesses and other detail about them without waffling on with unnecessary and boring information. It's always entertaining.
"Incomplete story on audiobook"
The audio book with 50 chapters is not the complete book. Chapter 50 ends the audio book, with all loose ends: The du Toit son Paul, is diagnosed as psychopath by the school shrink, Griesel & the Hawks team are still in mid investigation and no closer to who or why the victim was murdered, etc. The audiobook of Icarus, is half a book, of 50 chapters. How do I get the rest of the story on audio?
"Use the Enhanced Format to download this book"
At first I downloaded this title as Format 4 - but that only contained half of the book (as mentioned by other reviewers) - however the Enhanced Format contains the full story in one file.
A fast-moving, gripping story - very well narrated by Saul Reichlin
"Will Benna make it through the crisis?"
We don't know. Why don't we know if Benna can solve the crime and salve his soul? Because Part Two will NOT DOWNLOAD. After phone calls and emails this problem is still on-going. I have given up and bought the hardback - because Benny Griessel is worth it!
Buy the hardback - don't download until it is sure that both part one and two will work!
Everything! No one can roll their 'R's better than Saul Reichlin.
AUDIBLE - SORT OUT THE PROBLEM
"Don't buy, it's faulty"
If the download had been the 13 hours it should have been, instead of the 7.5 it is. Customer services have been aware of the problem for 10 days now and it's still not fixed, but the title is still on sale.
Not from Audible, I've cancelled my membership
It was only 7.5 hours long
It made me cancel my membership.so yes.
How can it take over 10 days to fix a faulty title?
I downloaded this for my blind father who loves Meyer books and only got 9:58 seconds for my money. Not cool Amazon - he was VERY disappointed!!
I don't know how to go about getting this fixed.😤
I listened to this in four sessions, including a "late nighter". Brilliant story, slightly marred by Benny's relapses into alcoholism which I find tedious and not believable. Maybe just too close to home? Anyway, highly recommended. I did read the other reviews before I bought this and thoroughly sympathise with those who found that the 2 part download thing didn't work it must have been a cutting experience. Shame on Audible for not fixing it. I listened on the phone app which works fine.
Yes - gripping storyline
not sure - just a good mystery and suspense
Good performance by Saul Reichlin
I absolutely loved this book & have the 'finished a great book & am at a loose end Blues'.
I have read all Deon Meyer's books and this has been my favourite. Very good story, good yarn - no snipers, chases or anything too frenetic, just very good story.
As always the descriptions of Cape Town & surrounds are very evocative.
Saul Reichlin's narration wonderful. As a homesick expat South African I savoured the South African accents.
I cannot recommend this highly enough.
