The 10th novel from the million-copy best-selling author.
Three houses have been burgled in five weeks. The robbers barge in through the back, disable any way to contact the outside world, and then ransack everything - before distributing the stolen cash to local charities.
It might be robbing from the rich to give to the poor, but Detective Inspector Jessica Daniel is not a happy bunny. The new DCI has a whiteboard with far too many things on the 'unsolved' side, and he wants the burglars found. Doesn't he know she has other things to do? There's a lottery winner who's gone bankrupt, the homeless teenager she's taken in, the botched drugs raid, a trip to London with DC Archie Davey, and a man-mountain Serbian with a missing wife who's been pimping out young women.
All the while, someone's watching from the wings and waiting for Jessica to mess up. Officers are being pensioned off and booted out - with a certain DI Daniel firmly in their sights.

I absolutely loved this series - have listened to all 10 and I have thoroughly enjoyed them all! Bit disappointed with part of the last book (I won't give anything away but if you've listened to it you'll know which bit I mean!) - like I'm sure many others were but that didn't stop me grabbing this one straight after its release. I did listen to book 9 again before this to get back into Jessica's story and started this one straight after so it flowed nicely.
Great story and very well read by Becky Hindley - she is Jessica for me and helps create the scene. I do think you should read these in order as they do refer back in parts so helps you understand her past.
Another great book in the series - please keep writing these Kerry!
"Best audiobooks ever!"
I have listened to all of the Jessica Daniel books & have to say they are at the top of my list of favourite audiobooks. The stories are brilliant with gently weaving story lines & Becky Hindley is absolutely fantastic, the narration brings the books alive. I want to listen, walk the dogs until they can walk no more, invent items to be ironed, but I never want the books to end! Brilliant! Can't wait for the next episode in Jessica's life.
"Not for me"
This book just didn't hold my attention, my mind kept wandering resulting in me having to keep rewinding. I managed to get to the end eventually but need not have bothered it was as boring as the rest. The narration was okay but didn't add anything exciting. Disappointing.
"It was okay"
Not as good as previous books, seemed to go on about when it didn't need to.
"Left this book with 15 mins to go!"
The story, was there one?
The description of the story was nothing like the actual book
Brilliant, like her a lot. Would read another book narrated by her
I'm not saying that the story wasn't good just not what I expected hence when it didn't materialise I decided to give up on it.
I bought this because I have enjoyed others in the series, I like the character of Jessica Daniel and Becky Hindley's reading of the series is excellent. Unfortunately, as in the previous novel, Wilkinson is sloppy in his writing. There is a grating over-use of adverbs and otherwise poorly written sentences e.g. "She looked at the wall where a red triangle was leaning against the wall". He really needs to read, and try to learn from, such writers as Stephen King, Robert Galbraith and Elizabeth Haynes, not for story inspiration, but to discover high quality writing that flows beautifully and never destracts the reader from enjoying the story. It doesn't matter to me if there is a good tale in the book. I'm not willing to pay for, and wade through poor writing to find it. I will return this and spend the credit on something by a better writer.
