For four years, Kate Marshall has been grieving the loss of her husband and their three-year-old son in a boating accident. But when she spots a familiar-looking child on an escalator in the mall, she is convinced it is the son she thought was dead. With police skeptical of her story, she turns to private investigator Connor Sullivan. The former Secret Service agent is dubious but agrees to investigate. Digging into the case he discovers that the incident may have been no accident at all. But if Kate's son is alive, someone is intent on keeping him hidden - and may be willing to go to lethal lengths to protect a sinister secret. As Irene Hannon's many fans have come to expect, Deceived is filled with complex characters, unexpected twists, and a riveting plot line that accelerates to an explosive finish.

I did not read the print version. I have been listening to Audible books for over 2 years now. No looking back. Holding a book hurts my hands, so listening is best for me and we travel a lot. Listening in the car for five hours at a time helps make the trip seem shorter.
We love Irene Hannon's books. They have suspense and keep us on the edge of our seats. We love that she is a woman of faith and she keeps it in the telling of her stories. The main character knew things were amiss in the investigation of the death of her husband and son so the ending was very surprising.
She keeps the characters interesting and the plot intriguing.
Kate Baldwin is a very good narrator and she keeps you interested in the story.
I don't want to give the story away if you haven't read or listened to it yet. I love that when I read or listen to this author there will be no bad language or sex scenes. But in no way are they boring, preachy, or uninteresting!
"A nice ride"
I must say that I quite enjoyed this book. The story was well crafted and the characters well drawn. The only negatives for me, were the religious references and the character of the kidnapper who was on one hand portrayed as a nice guy and good father figure and on the other as a murderer and child stealer who was intent on murdering again. I think a more interesting and evil character could have been developed, which would have made the story more interesting, rather than the Mr "ordinary nice guy" that had simply lost the plot when his own son died. I'm not sure why this book commanded so many 5/5 scores. I have read far better mystery/thrillers that commanded this type of score, but alas they don't come by that often. In summary, an OK read.
"An exciting clean mysterious romance!"
You'll love it! It keeps you wanting more of Irene Hannon. books. Please keep them coming! Thank you for keeping them clean!
"Fast-paced story. Very good narration."
This was my first book by Irene Hannon and I thoroughly enjoyed the story and appreciated the well-performed narration. I listened to this in my car and would find myself looking forward to long drives so that I could progress further with the story.
The plot was captivating from the first chapter as the lead character suffered the loss of her husband and child. The book, however, did not dwell on the loss but rather focused on the recovery of the mother and the strides she made to move on with life. Of course, when, four years later, she saw a child in a mall who greatly resembled the son she thought was dead, the heroine was presented with a dilemma...to pursue her instincts or accept the evidence that her child was dead. Her handling of the situation and the gradual development of her relationship with the private detective hired to assist her made for a very fast read. I thoroughly enjoyed the manner in which the author switched between the lives of the mother/heroine and the child whom she suspected might be her own. The writing was direct, interesting and without the unnecessary foul language found in many suspense novels. Memorable characters and an interesting plot made for a great listening experience.
Kate Baldwin did an excellent job with the narration of both male, as well as female, characters in this novel. I have listened to many audio books and I know that narration can either 'make or break' the book. In this case, the narrator enhanced the story and brought to life the various characters as she gave memorable renditions of each character in the novel. Truly good work by Kate Baldwin. Good enough that I will look for more books performed by this very fine narrator.
Just as she begins to recover from the devastating loss of her husband and young son in a tragic boating accident, a mother's life is shaken as she spots a young boy who looks, and sounds, like the son she laid to rest.
"loved this book"
Dee Henderson is amazing and paired with Ms Baldwins narration makes it even better. Satifying
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone. My radio is out in my truck so it kept me company.
"Probably the best book I have listened to."
Great mixture of mystery and romance. I will definitely listen to more books by this author. Couldn't wait to hear the ending
If you haven't listened to the other two book's in the series, please do, you won't be disappointed, I just wish they had another series. I found it very pleasing to listen to and as with the other two, suspense, a little romance, no sex scenes. I came to the conclusion of who did it, but couldn't figure out the motive, or how it was done, but coming closer to the end it all fell into place..well worth a credit or the money..you won't be disappointed, and the narration wasn't bad, but not the very best, but still a job well done..
"It was okay"
I listened to this book while on a road trip. The storyline appealed to me when reading the writ up about the book but I found it to be quite simplistic. It was slow to get to the point when it was obvious of what was going to happen next. I probably won't order another book by this author or recommend the author or the book. It passed the time for me while driving. I found the words of the child in this book not to accurately reflect a child of the boy's age.
"Must be a first novel - too simple and plot is weak"
Storyline was weak, along with vocabulary. Narrator seemed new to the job also. All in all, I wouldn't waste my time
