A reclusive author, Beryl Madison finds no safe haven from months of menacing phone calls - or the tormented feeling that her every move is being watched. When the writer is found slain in her own home, Kay Scarpetta pieces together the intricate forensic evidence - while unwittingly edging closer to a killer waiting in the shadows.

"Takes the reader into the fascinating world of the forensic crime lab ... a complex, multi-layered novel with enough twists and turns for two books." (The Washington Post Book World)
"Cornwell has the milieu and the facts down cold ... a complex story that wends a devious path through dark spaces where corpses are discovered at practically every turn." (The Los Angeles Daily News)
Great reader, fantastic story love the characters Scarpetta is definitely my new addiction!
The ending is really great and not predicable
When Scapetta arrives in key West and learns all about Beral
The contact from the killer to Kayak chilled me to the bone!
Really great book overall I will be going with the rest of the series, really makes you want to get to know the characters and health more about their stories
I found the narrators voice a little odd at first but I gradually loved it.
"Love the book, but hate the narrator "
I'm extremely disappointed Lorelei King's narrative performance is awful. Total waste of a credit. I would have to liken her voice to nails on chalkboard, the worst narrator I have heard on Audible to date.
"Scarpetta at her best"
love these books and have started on an audio binge in the car. Hubby likes them too!
